I do find the attacks on our culture quite upsetting - we tolerate all sorts of protests by newcomers and get no gratitude for what we offer. The very people who should be upholding our values seem quite happy to always find the negatives from everything we do or have done. Not going to buy any socks from MKS this year in protest. That will sort the country out.

Richie, the divi yield is only part of the story the share buy backs push the yield up, i believe to around 8% >most impostantly the O and G sector is generating huge amounts of cash just now and the people who believe humans are the major cause of climate change are forcing institutions to ignore the great returns on offer.

PI100, I don't thinkwe can read much into the fact that no deal has been struck with the government. I worked for a large corporation and we were in a legal battle that we would obviously [ to me and many others] lose but the boss was keen to press on knowing that he would be elsewhere by the time the inevitable occurred. That was a company that was in theory looking after its shareholders, so in our situation, once the government legal team grab themselves this project , they will likely see it through to the bitter end whatever. we shall see.

Wework is to file for bankruptcy - must drive some business here I should have thought.

Share, I agree there are no safe shares - I meant 'safe' as a relative term. Aim shares imv are manipulated by disreputable people but the same mob cannot realistically do so with large mcaps. Manipulation there is by disreputable hedge funds. LOL.

Sharehuzzaski, well done . If you are looking for somewhere safe to invest that large sum, I would go for a ftse stock rather than aim , and just now there are some real bargains out there. My favourite is JD Sports but there are others.Good Luck.

I think it had to be suspended as the directors ascertained the company could no longer be considered a going concern with the imminent refinancing need and no party willing to cough up. The housing market is dire with sales down over 20% so far this year and worse to come . People are reluctant to invest in their homes when all they see is a fall in value and other large calls on their cash. Difficult couple of years ahead , until we get a new government and then it will become impossible.lol.

The government will do all it can to help first time buyers not realising that the demographic that votes for them are those who worry about IHT! One reform there , that would help reduce inflation, through lower food prices is to remove IHT relief for farmers as so many people buy land just to avoid IHT pushing up farm costs for the genuine farmers. Jeremy Clarkson excluded.

So many great british companies are being hammered just now - why? Imv the risk free return from bonds etc is around 6% , so a premium above that is needed to bolster share prices based on the return they offer. Given our economy is in a terrible state and all governments will tax everything until it breaks [ e.g north sea levy] the prospects for UK investros are not great over the next few years, hence poor share prices.
