I was wondering if it would be possible to feed the entire list of stock codes from the London stock exchange into Yahoo Finance and get some information about stock splits.

Well it turns out that it is.

According to Yahoo there have been 684 stock splits on the London exchange since 2001.

Not sure yet what to do with this info but it seems like it might be a contribution to discussion about possible good and/or bad effects (if any) of consolidation.

It might be interesting to see how the average share price for 30 days before a consolidation compares with the average (appropriately adjusted) price for 30 days after.

Note, the list shows share splits as well as reverse share splits (ie consolidations), the former are shown like 20:1 and the latter like 1:20. I have no idea what some of the fractions mean, for example 0:1 in "2018-10-30 0:1 Hon Hai Precision Industry"

More on Atalaya ... I said yesterday, "The first couple of weeks (after consolidation around 100p on 21st October 2015) look rather chaotic, on 2nd November the price was 69p".

I've delved a bit more and it seems there was another explanation for the chaos:

"Ashwath Mehra's Astor Management AG is suing Atalaya Mining for €15.9 million ($17.5 million) plus damages over payments linked to Emed Mining's 2008 acquisition of the Rio Tinto copper mine in Spain, the London-listed miner told investors on Monday November 2.

Shares in Atalaya – formerly Emed Mining – dropped by as much as 17% on the London Stock Exchange after the miner announced the claim."

As far as one can reasonably tell, this lawsuit was totally unrelated to the consolidation.

Just to add, JM in AGM presentation earlier this week ... discussing no short term need for main market listing ... singled out Atalaya as one of two companies for which he reckoned AIM is working well.

Well here is one. Atalaya (ATYM) did a consolidation in Oct 2015 and seems to have fared quite well since.

The reasons they gave in RNS, and the numbers involved, appear strikingly similar to what is being suggested for HZM (ATYM 1:30 from 3.5p as opposed to HZM 1:20 from 6.7p)

"2015 has been a very exciting year for the Company principally through the re-establishment of production at the Riotinto Copper Project. The Company will now be focusing on ramping up production and becoming a significant European copper producer. Accordingly, in order to better reflect the prospects for the Company and to help reinvigorate its presence in the capital markets, the Board is proposing a share consolidation and change of name."

"The Company's current issued share capital consists of approximately 3.5 billion Existing Ordinary Shares. The number of shares has resulted from a number of capital raisings since the Company's incorporation in 2004 in order to fund its operations, including most recently the issue of approximately 2.1 billion shares to raise capital to help fund the development of the Riotinto Copper Project and capitalise certain borrowings from cornerstone Shareholders. The Board considers that the current issued share capital is considerably higher than similar sized companies on AIM and the TSX and it believes that this affects negatively investors' perception of the Company. Accordingly, following consultation with certain of the Company's Shareholders, the Consolidation is being proposed in order to reduce the number of Ordinary Shares that are in issue to a level more in line with comparable AIM and TSX listed companies. The Directors believe that the Consolidation may improve the liquidity and marketability of Ordinary Shares to a wider range of investors, including institutional investors. "At the EGM, the Directors are inviting Shareholders to approve a Resolution which will authorise the Consolidation. The share capital of the Company will be re-organised by consolidating all of the issued and unissued Existing Ordinary Shares on the basis of one New Ordinary Share for every 30 Existing Ordinary Shares."

The consolidated share price on 21st October was about 100p (up from 3.3p). The first couple of weeks look rather chaotic, on 2nd November the price was 69p, then on 1st December it was back up to 95p. Then there was a gradual increase, the price broke through 200p in January 2018 and is now 370p.

I'm getting those numbers from the chart at https://atalayamining.com/share-price/ but it's a bit of a sketchy chart and probably not very accurate. If anyone can give a more detailed and informed account, it would be interesting.

It seems to have stopped raining about 10 in the morning of the ceremony day (last Wednesday) and since then it's been four days running without a drop or rain (Thurs,Fri,Sat,Sun)

From RNS, "A ground breaking ceremony was held on 18 May 2022."

On Wednesday 18th May it was raining for much of the day.

But ... and here is the extraordinary bit ... Thursday 19th May was not just dry, but was *completely* dry, meaning that the rain gauge measured 0.00m

I wonder if they have a rain doctor on the team.

19th May was the first completely dry day at Araguaia South since 22nd September last year.

Hi pickedpeck, are you sure? As of now, Anglesey Mining is not on the main market but is on AIM.

Also, it is on the list at luku.org. Its market cap at end of last month was 10.2m GBP, so you need to change the minimum market cap setting from the default 40 to anything less than 10 in order to make it appear:

By the way, when a share is denominated in a foreign currency, the stock exchange sometimes calculates an equivalent GBP market cap, e.g.

but sometimes omits it, for example

To make these shares show up in the list at luku.org, set the minimum market cap to 0.

So far I'm not aware of any omissions but would be happy to hear of any if there are.

Something to try out. http://luku.org/xlist/ lists share prices and market caps for Main market and AIM, with choice of which column to sort on.

One can set minimum market cap, choose which market or both, and sort by share price, market cap, company name, or EPIC

The default minimum market cap is 40m GBP, which approximates the FTSE all-share cutoff and ignores what in the USA are called nanocaps (companies with market cap less than 50m USD)

Choosing Main+AIM, and sorting by market cap, this should give the same results as the page at stockchallenge.co.uk (allowing for day-to-day variations in share price).

Choosing just Main and sorting by share price, it answers the question with which this thread began:

Well how startling is that? To me, quite a lot. I'd had no idea how much of an outlier HZM would be if it were to join the main market with its current share price.

With all due respect to Stephan's comments about a main market listing being too expensive and time-consuming ... I still do wonder. Going through this consolidation just in order to fit in better on TSX doesn't feel 100% convincing.

Actually the HL page is a perfect example of what I was complaining about ... one can't do much with that kind of page except gaze at the numbers. It is maddeningly inadequate if one tries to extract any non-obvious info from it.

It would be mighty convenient if it had a sort button, so that one could sort on specific columns (currently it is sorted by market cap). I'm quite tempted to see how hard it would be to add some sort options.

But as that was really just an impressionistic suggestion, I thought it would be worth trying to find out how true it actually is.

Well...... I've got to say that I'm shocked at what I found ... which is that the info for answering this question doesn't seem to be at all easily available in any systematic way. Unless I'm missing something obvious.

I would have thought this kind of thing is basic info that should be readily available (and free) to private investors.

Great, but is that a big enough reason by itself? I wonder if another reason could be in preparation for a main market listing in London.

Yes! Two dry days in a row (25th, 26th April). And not just at ANS but over a whole swathe of the mid Araguaia area. Today could be dry also.

It's early days (well, early afternoon in Brazil) but it's looking like it could be two dry days in a row at the Araguaia site. Which would be somewhat unprecedented for April.

Last year, April didn't have even one dry day, and the first dry day was 11th May.

(By 'dry day' I mean a day with less than 1 mm of rainfall)

In fact, the forecast for the whole area is showing some clear days coming up. There is likely to more rain next week, but it looks like things are now getting a chance to begin to dry out.

Pretty exciting, huh? If anyone finds it an odd thing to be excited about, let them note what it says on the developer portal of the Norwegian meteorological service:

Yesterday (25th April) the Araguaia Nickel South area had its first day with less than 1 mm of rainfall since 29th October last year.

Will there be a ground breaking ceremony? Should there be one? Has it already happened?

Actually what I'd like to hear is that it already happened, in February, when a local school child, perhaps a descendant of one of the farming families that owned the land originally, starred in a quietly dignified ceremony organized by the staff of the office at Conceicao do Araguaia.

Be that as it may, the reason for this note is to make it harder for negative people like contrarian to complain about "shocking delays" or whatever they try to come up with along those lines.

(Contrarian was the one who spent several posts arguing that the management is secretly scared of trying to build a mine and that's why they shockingly haven't started yet. "I still maintain that none of the BoD actually want to be involved in building a mine. They are deal makers, powerpoint guru's and paper pushers.")

But also, I think some positive people might have been a tad optimistic about what "early Q2" means in "The Project is well positioned to start the main earthworks at the start of the dry season in early Q2".

The fact of the matter is that it is still raining at Araguaia Nickel South, just as much as it has been doing since October (and since mid October it rained literally every day except for October 29th), and that this is entirely to be expected and is totally normal.

Rainfall in last week: 77 mm
Rainfall in last 10 weeks: 630 mm
Rainfall in last 20 weeks: 1358 mm
Rainfall in last 30 weeks: 1834 mm

Meaning: it rained more in the last week than it has been doing on weekly average over the last 10 or 20 or 30 weeks.

The transition to dry weather, when it comes, is quite sharp, taking about 2 weeks, and it looks like it could happen this year between 1st and 15th May. That is based on the fact that for the last several months, the pattern of rainfall this year has been very similar to last year, and that last year the transition to the dry season occurred fairly sharply between 1st and 15th May.

I think that when the company says "early Q2" it is dividing Q2 into two halves, early Q2 (1st April to 15th May) and late Q2 (16th May to 30th June).

In which case, start of main earthworks any time before 15th May would be within schedule as so far given.

I think about a month. Or hopefully a bit less.
