Rich you cannot be serious. That is more than 500 miles from the mine.

To get to the mine, go North along PA-449 from Conceicao and turn left at Ladeira do Sabao onto what was an unsurfaced road but is intended to be upgraded by HZM to gravel top.

After nearly 4 miles you pass a farm on your right, Fazenda boa esperança, the Farm of good hope.

After another 3 miles you turn right onto what was (in July 2021) just a rough track. It would be good to see how it is looking now.

Not really sure what you are saying ... but it sounds as though you are saying HZM should or could ease off on the ESG expenditure

One could have tried making that case two or more years ago. The die is now cast. HZM have gone firmly along the excellent-ESG route, and this cannot now be changed. The major funding partners would be outraged and disgusted.

Philip Clegg: The big thing right now is ESG. It's everywhere right now in terms of the investment community, not just in private equity but others as well, it's just an area that you cannot get wrong. It's unacceptable to investors like ourselves ... Is the framework right, are the policies right, is the culture right ... are they thinking about this correctly ... you'd be surprised, there are companies out there in our space that are just not getting it right and therefore they are just not going to attract investment from the blue chips. So that is the absolute key thing at the moment, it's top of the list.

Other companies are the opposite. We invested in a company called Horizonte Minerals which is a nickel developer in Brazil, and they intend to go into construction next year, and they're out with a sustainability report. I don't think I've seen that for a development company. So that's an example of where things ... in the attitudes and the cultures of a company ... even though they're a junior ... are absolutely right. Alerted by Slurms, I had another look at the options RNS.

It is surprisingly complicated. I dare say, more complicated than it ought to be. But so be it. Assuming that in its current form it is correct (and is not the mistaken result of disjointed editing, which it looks like it easily could be), the situation is that

- the options are *vested* in three unequal-sized tranches, sized in proportions 25:25:50

- the options are *priced* in three equal-sized parts, at prices £1.68, £1.72, £1.76

The result is absurdly complicated (and perhaps unintendedly so) and is similar to what happens if you try beating time with the left hand doing four beats while the right hand does three beats.

My guess is that they originally intended to make the tranches equal-sized, so that each tranche would be at its own price, but then they decided to make the tranches unequal-sized, but did not adjust the pricing.

Eh? That seems meaningless, or obscure, or wrong. I think you might have misread or misunderstood the RNS.

The offer is to "flog" 25% of the options after 12 months at £1.68, another 25% of the options after 18 months at £1.72, and the final 50% of the options after 28 months at £1.76

That seems reasonable, and well within the norms for reputable companies.

We are used to the actual spread being much closer than the quoted spread, but sometimes they take it to strange extremes.

A couple of minor improvements: (1) the average share price data is now volume-weighted

(2) the before part of the before/after comparison uses data ending 15 days before the event.

The second point was suggested by an article surveying consolidations on the Hong Kong stock exchange, which remarked that a split or consolidation tends to be announced a couple of weeks before the event, and any sentiment-driven effects on the share price would likely start from that point.

My theory is that the market makers need shares in order to match those large buys, and that they find the best way to obtain shares is by dropping the price.

If they raise the price, then people think it is the beginning of the re-rate, and nobody is willing to sell.

But if they drop the price, then some people quickly sell, fearing that the price could drop further.

Hi. I have added two columns to the list of consolidations and splits at http://luku.org/splits/

One gives the average price for 30 days after a consolidation or split, as a percentage of the average price for 30 days before; the other does the same thing for volume.

These are using data from Yahoo Finance, which normally adjusts prices and volumes for splits. But it doesn't always. For example, following a 10:1 share split at RFG in Nov 2021, Yahoo reports the price becoming a tenth of what it was before. Likewise with JADE, after a 5:1 split in June 2010, Yahoo reports the price becoming a fifth of what it was before. These are presumably mistakes (since it omits to flag these prices as unadjusted).

But Yahoo seems to introduce that kind of inconsistency only rarely. Out of the 674 consolidations and splits where price data is available, it shows the (supposedly adjusted) share price collapsing to less than 30% only 13 times, and jumping to more than 300% only 7 times.

To help focus on data that should be relatively meaningful, the app by default throws away outliers of less than 30% or more than 300%, but you can see all the data by setting both min and max to 0%.

Whether this experiment can actually give any worthwhile information remains to be seen but I think some of the views obtainable by sorting the data in various ways are potentially interesting.

As a special for LawrenceH, it can be sorted by consolidation ratio, so one can compare how companies fare after a consolidation of 1:10 as against 1:20.
