We’re not living by the old rules anymore. We’re in a transactional world order where power is about deals, leverage, and who moves fastest—not who hides behind drawn-out tender processes.

If the UK Government continues to drag its heels on Rolls-Royce’s SMR program, they won’t just lose the company’s confidence — they’ll open the door to foreign influence and control over one of Britain’s most strategic assets.

The nuclear element may be legally protected, but don’t kid yourself: Pressure can come from anywhere in this climate, and hesitation is an open invitation.

Rolls-Royce is ready. The UK isn’t. And if we let this opportunity slip abroad, the blame will fall squarely on those in power — not on the system, not on the market, but on this Government’s failure to lead when it mattered most.

The UK Government still holds that special share in Rolls-Royce, which gives it veto power over anything that could impact national security. That includes foreign takeovers beyond 15% and especially anything involving nuclear technology or defence work.

So when it comes to the nuclear side of things — like the submarine propulsion systems or the SMR program — that has to stay in the UK. There’s no way the Government would (or even legally could) let that part be shipped overseas.

Now, some of the non-sensitive stuff — like parts of the civil aerospace business or specific manufacturing — could be moved abroad if Rolls-Royce wanted to. But the core nuclear work? No chance. That’s protected, and for good reason.

Bottom line: They can mess up the broader opportunity if they delay too long or pick the wrong partner, but the nuclear piece isn’t going anywhere. The golden share locks that down.

Jakeyork - I too have 100% confidence in Rolls-Royce — and 0% in the UK Government when it comes to delivering on this vital national priority.

This decision has been delayed far too long, hidden behind the so-called tendering process. The clock lingers. If the Government or Great British Nuclear chooses to hand this opportunity to any outsider, it will directly undermine the UK’s long-term strategic energy security.

If that leads to Rolls-Royce walking away, or the project being taken abroad, the blame will lie entirely with this Government. It will be a clear and undeniable failure — not just of leadership, but of duty to the country. They will have turned their backs on British innovation, jobs, and energy independence.

Enough is enough. It’s time to make the right decision — before the opportunity is lost for good.

NuckyT: Let’s assume, for a moment, we’re working off current analyst consensus figures: Underlying profits are forecast to reach approximately £2.8 to £2.9 billion in 2026, rising to around £3.1 to £3.2 billion in 2027. Free cash flow is expected to climb from £3.0 billion to nearly £3.5 billion over the same period. This establishes a solid and credible runway toward a potential share price in the £11 to £12 range—should we see significant traction in either, or ideally both, the SMR programme and the Narrow-body Ultrafan engine joint venture during that time frame.

Once those engines begin to take shape, the turbochargers will engage—and at that point, the share price could be well-positioned for lift-off.

The reintroduction of the dividend further opens the door for significant pension funds and institutional investors. And who knows where we’ll land on the share price front once they start fuelling up the tank? It’s worth noting that this trajectory doesn’t yet factor in any additional upside that may arise from future buybacks.
