Hey chaps, once we have the todays (ex-divi date) behind us I see us steadily moving up positively for the next 13 days or so, due to a report on Bloomberg today, that the Fed deputy is indicating the next Fed rate adjustment to combat inflation is likely to pause (& be put on hold) until they have completely assessed all of the data, as they now have reached what might be the peak for rates. Normally (with the other Gold/Silver miners) we would find this positive news!

Yes great news Bondsman. Locals are reporting a surge in bookings and other routes in the pipeline as the Easyjet CEO announced.

Looks like internet is now reporting the news too as you have found on yahoo news. I wonder why Esken are so quiet about it, as they should be very pleased with themselves now having five major routes with local councillors reporting more in the pipeline and good news for Southend!

This years winter has dragged on to be honest! -last years was early -so lets hope we are finally here!

Fund managers and traders are waiting to see if the debt ceiling issue is sorted in the USA - & looks like they the US Govt are going to borrow more money and this will keep the Feds rates in check. We just need to be patient.

Yes I am most surprised too, and saw the price going up (at one stage over 8% yesterday) -only for the profit takers to move in. However even though MSN news broadcast it as well as Easy, it is strange that Esken themselves are not broadcasting the good news? Perhaps the BOD have options coming up, or we are awaiting for even more routes be opened up referred to be the CEO of Easy-J who is now starting to use S/end A/port as a new hub for European Capital Cities - as well as the popular Euro holiday destinations. Either way it is very good news for Southend Airport.

Expected to see USD falling and Gold rising. Fed projected to pause rises, and Biden and the Reps cannot agree a deal -so looks like US Economy heading down to me with GOLD rising. Maybe some are selling CEY as they do not want the divi from ex-divi 1/6/23? Strange people? Or rather do not even realise its due!

Agree very positive news with upside now that flights are now being extended to start off with one or two major Euro Cities as well as the usual Euro Holiday destinations. This share now has tremendous upside. From one to five destinations in a short space of time is a great start (post pandemic) and will bring in competition from the other short haul carriers such as Ryan Air who were thinking about this also - I am sure. We just have to be patient as momentum picks up! This shares NPV will improve too.

I was notified today via Microsoft News that Southend Airport have benefitted from further new flights being added by Easy jet to Paris, and can be booked from today for flights to serve from October. More new flights to follow per the Easy Jet CEO.

They went on flights from Southend now extend to new flights to Amsterdam and Paris, with flights also to Faro, Palma and Majorca. .... More to follow. Seems like flights are now starting to really pick up and by all accounts are becoming very popular with local people. Good news for Esken shareholders.

Marston I feel have improved -with World Class Beers and extra Lager sales from the JV where Carlsberg and extended range. I feel quite relaxed. Sales are improving year on year, debt is reducing and free cash is being created. Summer sales will help further too, even Bloomberg tonight are saying stocks on the FTSE looks cheap! GLA.

This is an improving sector and Marston will benefit like a number of other Companies in the travel/entertainment and retail. Sometimes this may take time, many on here feel in should happen over night well we have to be patient. There will be further opportunities if the war in Ukraine can come to an end, (with energy prices reducing) lower inflation and rates. Many feel the Fed is now in a very difficult position and rates may have peaked. If anyone is interested in debt have a look at the USA Economy. Most World Economies borrow, and most expanding Companies do too. Sentiment is the key and we need to wait for this to return which it will do in time with warmer weather for families to enjoy a trip out to the local! GLA. Keep positive the last statement from the Company said business is now returning (post pandemic) to normal.

Agree and suspect a MBO could be a possibility or quiet intention by the board, as most will be profit making pubs/ restaurants in the estate which are worth far more post pandemic, than when they had values downgraded during the same! However the Board may need to think about their options soon, as with the warmer weather Pub chain sales and the sentiment attaching to the group will grow in the summer months. Home beer sales from the partnership will too.

Marston debt is far less than M&B and they actually make more money per share. The debt when I last looked for M&B was £1.6B for Marston £1.2B. The NPV for Marston has increased to 98p and it has been said the the share is only discounted at the moment by the fact they have not re-introduced divis, and by worries about interest rates increasing (although Mars are already locked). If Bartrender and unfairtrader wish to go to M&B then go! Anyone can see how you enjoy pulling down this share for a cheaper entry point working as a pair - but I am happy to give an alternative longer term more positive view. Perhaps have a look at Morning star who will give you a comparison of earnings per share. The BOD will signal something soon I am sure and they will be buying some shares here soon at this price. Last figs released show a contribution to profits of £2m from associates but did not see any breakdown relating to home beer sales, which many predict have increased significantly but perhaps the quarterly sales numbers from the major supermarkets work in areas and so as "A Andrea" said the figs are expected to improve for the group during the year? Can see a management buyout coming here TBH if no's are being played down, but still significantly better than M&B if one looks at profits for the Company in comparison 9their loan book compared to ours) and share growth potential where they have increased sentiment on us today? Very strange IMHO.

Just wondering as it was reported yesterday of the increasing NPV share value of say 98p compared to that listed today on the LSE of 35p? When will we see the BOD suddenly increasing their own holdings -perhaps after 30 days? Looks like an under played set of results to me, although colder weather for this yr compared to last, maybe partly the reason for just a 10% plus increase, and of 17% on the yr before that. If we do suddenly get takeover fever here then we will see the BOD jumping on their share options that is for sure! Worth a watch to see what happens!

After seeing their results today Glad I am in here! Less debt here and instead of profits reducing we have profits increasing. I really do not understand why with our Net Present Value at 98p we are still here, but we will come back soon I am sure. Just need some warmer sustained weather.

However if those on here disagree they are free to sell up and go to M&B (oh I forgot they don't actually own any shares anyway -as they are just looking for a cheaper entry point). ha.ha.

Mitchells and Butler need to perform a lot better to match Marston figs so far this yr. I see until the end of Sept2022 Mitchells and Butlers made a mere £13m profit but Marston previously reported before this sales upgrade more than 10 times better at £137m.

M&B should release some more indication tomorrow of their figs to compare and if anyone is unhappy here they can go over there if they want, rather than pulling everything down all the time which is reactive and not proactive (unless they gain from failure) I don't and do not expect to either. I am happy with that and as they are building momentum whilst investing for the 2nd half no doubt awaiting for the warmer weather to finally arrive.

Menus look sharp and many pubs are refurbished already too.

We will see in the second half now if the figures can be further extended which is what they appear to be saying. Steady sustained progress is the key here with no worries about the business folding at the current time and more room for growth. Property values higher than book they reported too. GLA

I agree with you Mary. My God father was the Company Sec. for a very long time (he was a Captain in the Army )who had played his part and served us all well at Dunkirk, but was also very fond man of his Marston's and hence my personal references in memory of him. He was a great man and he always said this is a great company. So fingers crossed the tide has turned and sentiment has returned (post pandemic) and so it appears to this sector! GLA

Happy to hold this share and due to my family connection/ sentiment am unlikely to sell my whole holding anyway. Happy to support and hold this share for many years to come, as they will recover and quite strongly in my opinion where I see the Company Management making changes with infer a far more professional leadership with clear positive forecasts and presentations, award winning Beers and Menus to make a Company that cares about quality and service.

If they do get an approach that will not surprise me, but I would prefer us to remain in name as we are. GLA

Obviously affected by the BOE raising rates by .25% but Marston have hedged their liabilities and the outlook looks a lot better for not only them but also for lower inflation (mostly fuelled in my opinion by Oil price rises which are starting to come down anyway. Also if Sales are ahead over liabilities then investment income from higher rates will improve margins from banking proceeds, and if customers have less money for Holidays abroad they are more likely to stay in the Uk where Marston are based. Not long to the results now.
