I did say on Acacia gold mining you need to look this up on short tracker what happens when MW reduced, as I said before one of the large market investors BR altered their investments for the same sort of percentage if you follow which may have been by chance or a dove tail or a mere coincidence -who knows? Voting rights to financial instruments and vice versa. I did have a feeling myself they were working together. However the stock was never sold just used as a loan. I.M.H.O.

Lti-appreciate your honesty . I suppose all shares are a gable but it all depends how much one is prepared to take? I suppose the time to buy for me might be when the accounts are in a better shape. and the election result is known, and if any recognised find managers start coming on in here, as they are not stupid. I appreciate the price may be a lot higher by then but I suppose it will offer less risk. I was discussing this share with a buy potential with BB's only a couple of weeks ago and the price then at the time of the so called Lloyd's bank interest was £263'ish. I am pleased I have waited.

Illbet-Does their share being with a 0% as I cannot see them or anyone with sound long term investment strategy invested? I was hoping even to see M&G, Aviva, Prudential, Capita or someone like that? We appear to have one or two venture Capitalists and a Columbian are I right? Plus a few very rich Directors, presume on share options?

I can see we have a lot of answers from what appear to be some very experienced Metro shareholders here. As I am new to the board can anyone answer as I can see that some of the largest shareholders are venture capitalist firms likely to take a slice of a bad book of loans and flog them off cheap if it all fails, are there any large investors or fund managers that see this as such a great opportunity?
i.e. Are there are large pension funds invested here looking for longer term security and growth?
Are the M&G seeing this as a great opportunity, or anyone else? Only a thought for me to consider going forward?

Just be careful. As I have said if the price actually goes down further the shorters will take profits and buy back in. The price will then rise and they will short again. This is how they operate. It seems to me from my experience the share price drops and the shorters then decide ok that's enough profit for and reduce the short by buying back in. Most on here from the comments I see say oh good the price is rising that will take care of the shorts, but they are more likely to turn long as the price falls than when rising. Think about it. Unfortunately they hold a large number of shares and so even if they only sell to them what might be a small number for us it is still a large amount to a day trader. The shorters that sold a few days ago will be thinking I wish I had held on for the price to drop a bit more I have lost a fortune. In the same way most day traders say why did I sell when I did as the share price has kept rising. Most might have to change their mindset? imho.

The will have made a fortune already on Metro. My experience with MW with other shares I have owned such as Acacia Mining was that they stayed around with their shorts right up until the end when the firm was actually bought out by Barrick. I would not bet on the fact they are worried and will clear off because they will not. They will occasionally lower their position which might give day traders the sense of the good times returning as the share price falls, but as soon as it rises up again they will be back in with a bigger and perhaps a second short as they see it as an even better opportunity to make more money shorting from a higher price than a lower one. Their mind set is not the same as yours or mine, if you are a day trader.
So the way you think is not the way they do. They whatever you think of them do very well at what they do. lf you don't believe me look at short tracker Acacia mining for yourselves. Sept 19 was the time it was bought out by Barrick they were still in there holding their shorts right up until the end. As I understand it they were also there right up until the end with Thomas Cook as well where the hedging made them a small fortune. Sorry to disappoint some of you.

My wife made me laugh and if Metro are starting up new branches in places such as MacDons, etc, is this a drive thro? Very funny. To be honest if they wanted so many branches why did they not try and buy the Thomas Cook shops, instead of letting Hays get them on the cheap? I really do not understand why they are not concentrating with online banking as starting up any new branch will only increase costs? or do they think people are going to come in with all the spare stash they have under their beds before Corbin gets in?

Previously we found that everytime one of the largest fund managers reduced their Voting rights on stock held and voted and moved the same % over to financial instruments a well known shorter on the short tracking index raised their short by exactly the same amount. When the short was reduced by say 1% the situation was reversed. I.e. The short was reduced by 1% and the stock holding company reversed the SE notification for the exact same percentage back from financial instruments to full voting rights. This happened on more than one occasion and at no stage had the stocks been sold and bought on the LSE index and many here feel must take place. Believe me or not but that is what happened. So be careful and don't look too much for shorts trades in my opinion as I do not believe their trades are always shown on the index. Many here see numbers of purchases and assume because they want to assume in their own minds that this is the big bad shorters buying back because it is probably not. IMHO. However you are no doubt more experienced in all of this than me, so I am sorry If I am wrong but just want to make people aware to be careful with any stock that all is not always as it seems. I think in the end people believe want themselves or want others to believe. My feeling that this stock will drift lower towards the election and that any take over will be more likely with falling sterling is more likely than not. IMO.

I think you have missed the point -no shares ever are sold or exchanged between the parties, they simply have an in effect an agreement as if the shares had been exchanged. All that happens is part of the holding is registered away from voting rights and are said to the LSE to be used for other financial instruments? I will not name names who does this but some of us from another board have worked this out, and it is a known practice -so keep looking for open market sales and you will not find them. Laugh as much as you like.

I thought I was just starting to understand that shorters sold shares in a Company on a sharp downward trend in the knowledge they could then buy them back later at a cheaper price but I discovered some of the largest stock purchasers simply charge a shorter interest on shares that they loan out as a bet the shorter betting that they will go down (like as an option) but no actual shares exchange hands, a payment is made by interest on the loan and / or the bet itself. So this is a more mysterious world than I had first thought. So anyone wanting to look for severe stock repurchases on the open market might be disappointed. as shares might never actually be exchanged. The large Stock holders gain extra interest therefore on the stocks held. They gain income despite the share price falling. The shorter and the Stock holder both make some money. I hope our Colombian is not therefore seeing this as a loaning opportunity. As I said last night just be careful.

I honestly do not think a Billionaire is that bothered about playing silly games. If he himself follows fallen stocks for growth opportunities such as other Billionaires do they will simply see a stock that is of interest and either just buy it outright or just have a little gamble. I feel they will be only be influenced by the price, not by colluding or working with other people. The currency and market share price are more important than playing silly games and giving other people commissions or favour which cost more. They do not rely on favours. This share to our Colombian friend is cheap which is the only reason he bought it. He knows it will get cheaper still, if he felt it was to get more expensive and he wanted a bigger slice of the pie he would have bought it for the smaller amount he did. Without triggering any other disclosures or requirements . To him buying 4.77% or whatever he did in Metro is probably like you and I buying simply buying a new phone that's all, in my humble opinion.

It might be reflected in the rising prices of the mainstream banks but they have large corporate traditional backing. I venture to suggest a different opinion in that if Sterling falls it attracts the foreign investor to buy more of a Company such as Metro which becomes cheaper. The timing of our Colombians purchase is more than likely currency driven than anything else. So if I was hanging my new rain coat for Christmas on a takeover to help drive the price of Metro Bank up fast I would actually want Sterling to fall and not rise? Lets therefore hope Corbyn does his mischief and he helps lower sterling and metro might have another box of Cigars coming its way.

But markets now due to close until next week for thanks giving. China to release some figs tomorrow might show if trade war has had an affect on growth. I still expect Gold to rise from here as we approach the election highlights!!

Looks like Hoc is now coming back as it seems the recent sell off was overdone, and no doubt some come in here for a cheaper price. Hopefully the Chinese economy will not have fallen as many forcast and the miners will benefit.

Labours rises in the UK Election polls and starts handing out 100's of pages of documents to support what they call is the sale of the NHS. I can see Silver and Gold holding out at this rate. The US V China trade deal looks like it is drifting too. Hopefully we can continue to hold out precious metals prices and they could even rise. Although tomorrow will be interesting with China due to release economy production figs.

Maybe if they invested all of their money in one basket yes, but if it is spread about in the right shares why would you? Surely it is in the banks interest to keep day traders happy too? I see it like this the NYSE is at record highs isn't it? Gold and Silver are well up too? We have an election soon in progress -perhaps there are opportunities out there, as there is every day for a day trader? We are all here to make money let's be honest and so can be called day traders.
I would suggest what with low interest rates the place one would lose money is putting it and leaving it invested in a bank? Surely the stock market will give greater gains for a foreign investor using Japan as an example who have negative interest rates than pay the bank to look after money?

LTI you said earlier all day traders lose money I just wondered where or why you came to that conclusion?
Do you day trade? or are you assuming others always lose?
I think at times it is good to have a loss to reduce ones Capital gains tax? So at times I agree it does pay to make a loss? Just my opinion? Some could take losses here to offset against their other gains?
