Well, I'm still unclear that anything has changed fundamentally so I dropped out 20% of my holding at around 483.5-484. I closed my leveraged positions yesterday.

Stille, that didn't change over the last 2 days, neither did the markets appreciation of it. Something did change however and it's broken a pattern that normally plays out. I'm still concerned about a revisit of 463, but substantial news migh make that view completely obsolete.

It's the FTI group insolvency issue isn't it. That's why TUI, EZJ and CCL benefitted, but IAG didn't. It's not well phrased, but it's meant to be a quetion or opener for discussion.

Thumper, my worry is that we will revisit 463 or lower. For that reason, I'd feel more comfortable if I felt that the current rise was based on something tangible.

That's not an answer. for the fall, I don't fully understand the reasons. For you to say 'that's your answer' is very glib and in my view unhelpful.

Is it POO? EZJ, CCL and TUI up a fair bit (not so IAG) as oil and oil companies fall away a little. Anyone have a better idea?

What's also perhaps interesting in a weakly related way is that Petrofac are up 50% today and that's the most shorted company on the UK markets. It doesn't always go to plan for shorts as is equally true for longs. Risky business the stock markets.

Down quite a bit. Does that explain Mondays run up? We're now at 6.9% so someone thinks that their money is better served elsewhere.

Here's a breakdown of short positions that Millenium is involved in currently (48h ago). Taken from Shorteurope.com. They have been quite successful in most positions, but a whopping loss on Hargreaves Lansdown means that overall they are about neutral (but paying for the shares they short).

Culley, is it the best way to make money on the stock markets? Is there a better stock? Are you focussed on CPI only and if so, why? In my view, there are faster possibilities to increase your capital.

It's not a buy, it's the UT trade to tidy up the days trading and set a close price which is 14.26 (on this site). That suggests that there was no unusual disparity between buyers and sellers at close. The volume is high, but that could be a result of the us entering the weekend, which is a bh weekend. I wouldn't get too excited about it. It's been a good day and a good finish.

The short data is a couple of days out of date normally so that increase may have happened 2 days ago DonBroco? Might not have influenced todays price action.

It's not a 'sell', it happens every day to close out the market in an orderly way and set a price for the close. The closing price was 373.6 which suggests that matching the buyers and the sellers favoured the sellers. But it's not a sell as such.

Yes, there's something in that (although not every year without fail). I also noticed a long while ago, that most of my profits were coming in the first half of the year. If it's like that, I might as well pack my fishing gear and head out now for 6mths (not that I fish).
