Loosegoose In relation to my 09.32 post I have just read the FT article. HMG seems to be determined to prove its incompetence at every turn. They should have excluded civilian shipbuilding.

Loosegoose In relation to your 09.22 post do you have a link to the story? I do not think it would be that hard to avoid international competition. It depends on how you word the requirements of the tender. If you word it like 'The bidder must be able to evidence an expression of the best in British design and craftmanship utilising the best of workmanship from the home nations.' This wording can be justified by the purpose of the ship.

On the time before the start of build I thought it was nearer nine months as the original reporting said that the building will start next year after the tender competition.

Tango1 In relation to your 07.13 post. As tenders can take 9 months or more I would expect to see an uptick in contract awards in H2.

BlairPeach In relation to your 16.01 post you state 'As I have said from Day One, H&W's only chance is public money and lots of it, quick!' I recall you on numerous occasions saying that if the ML is not granted then INFA will not survive I do not recall you saying that the only chance is from lots of public money. Which ever reflects your view I do not agree with you. My view is that INFA would be able to survive on contracted work especially in relation to work connected to wind farm developments.

oldtramp In relation to your 16.23 post I was aware of the new flagship but my understanding was that the tendering process would take until next year. Both INFA and Cammell Laird have stated that they would be tendering for this.

Jabido In relation to your 15.32 post I think the reason why the UKEF funding was not available for the Saipem Contract was that the jackets were not being exported. The jackets were being installed on turbines within UK Territorial waters. Had the windfarm been outside UK territorial waters then it is possible that the funding could have been available. I recall at the November roadshow JW did make reference to the UKEF in relation to another possible contract.

Lottie123 I do not subscribe to the Telegraph so could not read the whole article. I would note that the MP quoted is the Chair of the Defence Select Committee. See my 10.04 post of yesterday for the title of one of the Enqueries that it is running. I wonder what one of the recommendations will be.

Speedy_Gonzalez In relation to your 00.09 post that is indeed an impressive range of vacancies across all the sites. It looks like they want to bring the ship design work inhouse.

I see from the Belfast Harbour website that the Dublin Swift has joined Stena Europe in the Dry Dock. So the Building Dock remains empty as it has done all this year as far as I am aware.

Lottie123 In relation t your 04.43 post I see the Germans have no objection to state aid if they are the ones providing it. Hopefully the Shipbuilding Strategy will include provision for state aid.

Sorry this may be a stupid question but what do you use a gantry crane for and why would you use a Henson crane instead of a gantry crane?

Of most interest is the one for a Naval Engineer. Why would they need one or more of those?

Chrisatrdg In relation to your 11.39 post I note that yesterday ThisTimeNextYeer made reference to a post on Facebook that Belfast is getting a third crane. I wonder what they are expecting why they need a third crane unless one of the two existing ones is being retired.

Lottie123 In relation to your 11.14 post this was raised at the last roadshow. The response to the question about it seemed to indicate that the sticking point was the funding of the project. Understandably INFA would not want to go ahead with the project without certainty of funding. Even if the Triumph does not go ahead by the end of this month I think that if INFA gets its fingers out it should be able to salvage the Isle of Scilly work (See the thread on this in particular from Si Derman. I am not sure if you have any connections with the BoD but if you do you might what to give them a nudge.

Si_Derman and Drango Thanks for your posts so Appledore has the facilities and the historical connections to do the job all that is needed is the finance. I wonder if they have been in touch with the BoD?

Si_Derman in relation to your 17.52 post as an alternative INFA could just poach all the work assuming there is any as there must be a reason for closing the drydock.
