I think with this contract the question of who gets the contract will depend on the weighting. I suspect the tender will have three components price, technical ability and social value. The weighting attached to each will be important. If greater weight is given to social value then Team Resolute would in my most humble opinion be in good stead. It has the geographic reach into three of the four home nations. In addition it as an apprenticeship that will help develop necessary skills. Also the tie up with Navantia will bring with it a knowledge transfer that would upskill the workforce. If greater weight is given to technical knowledge then Team Resolute has the advantage that Navantia has the recent experience of building similar ships.

BlairPeach In relation to your 16.02 post for the FSS contract assurance would come from the performance of Navantia who would be doing a knowledge transfer to improve processes at the INFA sites. For future contracts it will be from the performance on the FSS contract and other similar contracts. In addition there are the ship repair and refits. You have the refit of the Celtic Explorer which was done on time. In fact I think that was done a couple of days early.

I would observe that Appledore does have recent experience of building Yachts and most of the people who worked at the yard at that time may still be available. The same is also true of the former workers at H&W.

drango In relation to your 15.14 post I do not have sufficient information to do such an apportionment. However where the contractor regularly going over time and budget the question must come do you still use them. If INFA can prove they can deliver on time and on budget this would make it easier to pick up work forcing the other yards to improve efficiency.

The Defence Select Committee has an open inquiry in relation to Navy procurement. It is still open to submissions perhaps a few submissions making a similar point while answering the questions posed might jolt the MOD. My submission has gone in the deadline is 30 May 2021.

Bubble2021 In relation to your 09.12 post I think Team Resolute has a fair chance as BMT are respected Naval Architects who have worked with the MOD. Navantia has recent experience of building similar vessels for other Navies. So overall it would be a close call but Team Resolute should prevail due to the need for the vessels having to be built to time and budget which some members of the all British team have struggled with.

Sooner or later the MOD must decide that Rosyth is at capacity and cannot deliver vessels in a timespan that meets its needs. Who wants to bet that they will be delivered late?

The Ballot to decide which MPs will get a chance of bringing forward a Bill that has any chance of getting passed was held today. mcadder In relation to your 04.54 post the Fleet Solid Support Vessel tender is in danger of developing into a farce. Realistically it is a two horse race. The difficulty that the British consortium has is some of the firms do not have a good record when it comes to delivering contracts on time and within budget. The MOD might therefore look to Team Resolute to minimise the risk of late delivery or costs going over budget.

Spring is nearly over so they are running out of time for a spring launch.

oldtramp In relation to your07.14 post the Crown Estate leases already have minimum local content requirements which means that it is likely that a portion of the fabrication contracts are likely to go to local firms including INFA. In addition the CfD Auction Round 4 is also likely to have a local minimum content requirement. If the GMB are saying that all of the work should be local content then I am not sure that is realistic. My concern is that saying that would make the projects no longer financially viable.

Lottie123 In relation to your 10.07 post there are 94m shares in issue. Almost half are held by significant shareholders. I am not sure of the percentage held by PIs or IIs. But the daily trading average is less than a million. So there is scope for this to go on indefinitely. I suspect it would take a couple of large contracts in quick succession to get the share price moving.

Targetted intervention in certain sectors is possible the CfD round 4 auction later this year will give an indication of the support available for renewables sector. Of note for INFA would be the local content requirement.

oldtramp In relation to your m15.56 post the current planning permission is for gas storage. If and when it is decided to transition to hydrogen an amendment would be needed to the planning permission to allow for the storage of hydrogen.
