I would still say it's the FED (FOMC) minutes which caused the dollar strength increase, and obvious gold drop.

It's all about the FED mins- hence the drop now to @1943... it rose to 1972 in anticipation, then got whacked. Today has been all about FED (FOMC) minutes. Not a lot in there, but it's about what the markets were/weren't expecting. On the not of risk earlier in bullionvault, my interpretation was the risks they referred to are positive for gold.

Yes, of course Mr Tibbles, taken as a given :-). At the moment, being in overnight is a big risk, the swings recently have been extremely high, rather relieved after the ~1865 ~05:30 gold price, it rose a lot up to and beyond the opening day, else I feared a very bad day- especially at 05:30 this morning!

And don't forget the SP opens tomorrow at the close price today minus the dividend amount

Why is this so hard for people to understand? Same with all shares, you must own before goes ex-divi, clearly it goes ex-divi on 14th Aug so you must own the share close of play today. You can sell immediately on 14th Aug as it's the 14th Aug and no longer the 13th Aug!

Doesn't work like that, never linear- same with gold. Different investors- of course intra-day gold impacts SP, but so does general sentiment- remember the big drop here at pandemic panic in March... with FED news from yesterday, "no change but will do all that is required" , gold holds up well, but stocks rely on increased QE which is never guaranteed although not shut off either and likely to continue, but markets remain spooked on pandemic...

No, it's down to markets being down in general- CEY is a stock after all and not GOLD.
