Its a Mineral Resource Estimate, although the first one is often referred to as a Maiden RE.
So yes, you can have more than one

First MRE will in no way reflect the actual size of the resource, it's merely a starting point. We'd likely see MRE2, MRE3 leading up to PFS if we're still involved at that point.
So yes, it will be conservative but based on what they know at that point in time. I'm hoping that the MRE won't just be based on what they're infilling at present and will include some expansion, but who knows?

Red - MRE is due sometime this year but I'm not sure 'soon' would be accurate.
Latest Newcrest resource dimensions give us approx 11.5Moz at 2g/t and they are now stepping out and expanding the footprint.
I'm pretty sure the MRE, when it comes, will surprise to the upside.

Jerry - purely a lockdown guess but I assume they deduct all by-products as they are reporting AISC for gold, rather than operating costs for the mine

Hi thelearner - Just a point on the PFS. There is no way this will be completed before July and probably not before July next year. Newcrest have just committed to 80,000 metres drilling from July this year for 12 months. It would be pointless producing a PFS just yet.
Yes, they will probably meet their financial committment for Stage 3 early but JV states that its a minimum spend.

GGP don't have to fund anything for a while yet. Not even a consideration until after PFS is complete

Only guessing here schlemiel but maybe the difference is to do with the role they are playing. SOLG they are passive / advisory only and their stake allowed continued drilling of Alpala where Newcrest still have decent upside exposure.
At Haveiron Newcrest are the active partner so I think the JV is more appropriate. If they'd taken, say, a 15% equity stake 12 months ago I'm not sure we'd be much further along.

Hi kiefffy. Newcrest have 40% not 60%. They won't move to 60 until completion of pre-feasability study. The MRE is a step towards that and is expected H2

Newcrest Dec qty gave dimensions which equate to approx 7.8M oz. Assuming this will be updated tonight and even a modest increase in length, width or depth will make a huge difference to the contained oz's.

Much will depend on the results reported and wording used in the imminent release.
The last quarterly gave the size of the deposit (as at 31st Dec) as 450m length; 150m width and in excess of 600m depth. I'm hoping these numbers have increased (satellite pics would indicate that), and will be published again. Will give us a good idea of the possible size of the deposit.
I'd also like to see that it's still open in various directions!

After that then pick a number, although for me the price in a couple of days is totally irrelevant.

Agree with those that say there is no way Newcrest will play this down. Buying GGP on the cheap? I don't think thats going to happen either - they already have themselves an absolute bargain.

For arguments sake, lets say Hav ends up being worth $1B - they will have paid $65M for 70%
If it' ends up being worth $10B - they will still have paid $65M for 70%. Yes, they may end up paying us more if they want the balance but the JV is still mutually beneficial

Assuming ongoing drilling supports it then they will continue to be ultra positive - it's in their interest

I agree stuartw. I think its important for Newcrest to retain right of first refusal on some of our other nearby assets. Hav is still relatively early stage and its cheap for them to acquire a further 30%. If they bid for Hav now then the JV is finished and we can enter into JV's with anyone. I'm not sure Newcrest would want RIO all over Scally just now.
For the same reason, I don't think a bid for Greatland is likely. There are other majors with some hefty firepower who would likely get involved. I think the risks for Newcrest and the future of telfer are too great at this stage.
But....who knows? Just my take on things.

Shroom - would have to agree with you there although my reasoning is slightly different.

Newcrest currently have 40% of what is beginning to look somewhat large.

They get a further 20% for a piddling $25M on completion of PFS. A further 10% for an equally piddling $20M.

For arguments sake, lets say Hav is worth a billion (I know, it's more!). Why would they want to pay 300M for that extra 30% now when they can get it for $45M by sticking to the terms of the JV? Makes no sense at all.
