The latest Investing Matters Podcast with Jean Roche, Co-Manager of Schroder UK Mid Cap Investment Trust has just been released. Listen here.
The numbers I've seen for Ukraine equipment losses as a percentage of their total forces is extremely high unfortunately (up to 90% for some Ukrainian equipment types). Conversely Russia has taken losses but has on lost a small proportion of total equipment (10%). I can't find the link to this. If this is true, we are seeing end game in the donbas
Bob, why don't you snitch on him and get those posts deleted
Yeah chippy political documentaries about Ukraine are where the big bucks are. I'm sure he's on the take from putin too because he made no money from his highly successful movie career
2200 Vs 3000 makes little difference
I'm not trying to read Putin's minds. Putin has been talking about this repeatedly in speeches for around 8 years now. He says he has had enough of the colour revolutions and NATO encroachment. I listened to his one hour speech after the invasion, he laid out all out in that and other speeches since. He says the same in the Oliver stone documentary a few years ago. Do you subscribe to the Kamala Harris explanation instead?
Good post dshox, that will surely be deleted
Rich, if gpb winds up pog, I don't see how the court wouldn't have to make a decision. If a voluntary sale doesn't take place I don't think pog is a going concern. It has no revenue and can't pay it's debts. What auditor would sign off the accounts.
Chippy, conventional wars are not won with missiles. Putin doesn't want NATO missiles, equipment and troops 450 km from Moscow on an indefensible 3000km border with Ukraine. I know you can't fathom that
I guess pgb would apply to a court to wind up pog due to debts hailing to be paid. POG would then enter administration and the administrators would run pog while the assets are sold off. Money would be returned to parties based on their position in the capital stack. I don't know exactly how the international part of it would work
Chippy how do you know there is no threat. Do you have a crystal ball. Once Ukraine joins NATO it's not coming back. And then Russia would have an indefensible border with NATO of thousands of kilometers. You would accept the Monroe doctrine for the USA but not this
Chippy there are certain strategic choke points that Russia needs to hold to defend itself. Carpathian mountains, Crimea etc. They will not tolerate NATO taking these approaches. It is very difficult to defend thousands of miles of border with Ukraine. This is Putin's position, he has been talking about this for about 8 years now. The truth is that this conflict could have been avoided in February if zelensky just agreed to renounce membership of NATO in the constitution
Chippy, the status quo was broken when US agencies repeatedly pushed colour revolutions in Russias spheres of influence. It wasn't even subtle, look up Victoria Nuland. Ukraine, Belarus, probably kazhakstan earlier this year
The assets are worth whatever they can fetch in the coming months unfortunately. As was discussed in the censored thread, there have been other successful sales of gold assets in Russia recently
Russia have trouble taking mega cities like Kyiv because they are not willing to use destructive indiscriminate weapons. I think they will probably progress on the donbas much faster. Ukraine have lost a high proportion of their equipment, Russia have not.
Jack the crux of the issue is how the sale happens. Is it a voluntary sale, in which case the shareholders would get paid, or is it via administration, in which case the shareholders will not get anything unless the assets are sold for more than the debt obligations. There was a discussion about this earlier but the thread was deleted for some reason
If a Russian consortium take this private and move the company to Russia they will have no sanctions
The thread was about:
- Alix attempt to sell pog
- price required to pay off debt and avoid equity wipe out
- speculating about waiver by gpb
- gpb possibly winding up pog and putting it in administration
- outcome for equity post administration
Are these topics banned?
Why did whole threads with quality posts about pog get deleted today?
Some_investor, the poly auditor question is a non-issue, they are negotiating with two auditors right now and it will be resolved in a matter of months. Year end statutory reports are 9 months away.
Could you explain how poly has they same sales problem as pog?
Poly does not have gold offtake issues like at all POG. There are no offtake contracts like pog have with gpb. Poly Ru can sell to India, Russia, UAE, China etc in whatever currency they agree with the buyer. Poly Kaz is just under 50% of revenue and sells in USD to whoever they want.
