nuri, there is serious ongoing risk because of brexit.

if there is a hard brexit, and if folks like carney et al
are correct about just how nasty the impact of a hard
brexit is likely to be on the UK economy, then things
are going to get a lot worse before they get better
with the aviva share price. ... so if one does takes the
view either that hard brexit won't happen, or that
hard brexit might actually be an opportunity and
confound 'project fear' architects, then the current
aviva share price may well be an opportunity. -- but
aviva is very, very vulnerable to UK economy setbacks.

the other big snag with aviva is its persistent failure to
show an effective strategy for *growth*. all very well to
keep pumping out dividends from existing operations,
but they have not yet convinced the market that they
will be capable of growing the dividend. the metric that
a lot of people will be looking at is [current dividend %
PLUS anticipated annual rise % in dividend], rather than
[current dividend %] alone. - so if one company can give
[4% current + annual divi growth of 5%], that will trump
[6% current divi + annual divi growth of 1%] every time.

jury is out about brexit impact etc, & what is priced in.

for what it's worth, i am long aviva, 'tho not high conviction.

it will be interesting to hear in the quarterly update due soon
( - well, assume so, since they announced these back in may),
or indeed in the general meeting that they said they would
convene "in due course", whether they ever put any money at
all into NARC. (dunno. guess not?). but also, i am wondering
how they are getting on with those other two deals mentioned:

1st january whetstone update:
"The Company is also in advanced negotiations in relation to two other material investments and will update shareholders again in due course."

if they do announce something about another investment,
it would be helpful if they explained nice and clearly at the
time whether they are just announcing the terms of an
agreement [i.e. which might or might not get implemented,
as per the query re NARC], or an investment where they
have actually handed over cash etc. and completed it.

it's still only summer, so plenty of time for whetstone to live up
to the dream so eloquently articulated by neo99 on xmas eve:

on bct trials and the dhp "for 2 1/2 years plus" is not concrete
supporting evidence that those things have been happening.

but his manner of talking on the phone is not at all
the same as whether or not he genuinely gives a hoot
about people who have put money into his ventures,
& may have no connection whatsoever to his intentions.

in amit's line of business, he will have had a good deal
of experience in talking the talk when he wants to, eh?
