Hi BumbleB - I both agree and disagree with your post. Keith A talked about displacing diesel in his PHE video. I suspect with the Toyota interest, there is a very real need to get the hydrogen vehicle market moving and I think this is a hugely positive step as I see chargeable batteries as an interim tech to move away from oil based fuels.
However, as the hydrogen economy gathers pace, the same will happen to coal and gas - these will also need to be displaced and PDQ if we are to meet any sort of CO2 reduction targets. Domestic boilers will be adapted to hydrogen. Power generation will need to switch - I always remember the fact that chlor-alkaline industries consume 1% of the world's power! - that's a staggering amount of power and excludes all of the other mega-power consuming industries including steel/aluminium smelting, data centres, glass manufacturing, existing incineration sites to generate steam, to name a tiny few.
There's a huge market out there and once the hydrogen economy gathers pace, AFC will be exceptionally well placed to take advantage. Yes, in the meantime our model to initial markets might have changed but that could change very quickly in my opinion.
I would hope also that with our link to W2T that we will be put forward for an ideal complementary technology to sit alongside PHE DMG units for taking on spare hydrogen capacity and making their gasifiers a one-stop-shop for carbon-neutral power generation from waste.
All good in my opinion ! :)
