i just gave a list of facts and said "make of it what you will". your opinion is that lucy connolly deserves to rot in jail, and that's a perfectly legitimate opinion - and a lot of people agree with you. however, the real problem in the uk now is that a lot of us are of the opinions that we have a two-tier justice system. people of a certain race can get away with systematically raping (white) children; politicians can punch their constituents in the street; institutions can ignore the supreme court when they decree that people with *****es are not women; singers can call for the murder of soldiers in front of crowds of thousands - and millions of bbc viewers. however, instead of police dealing with real crimes, they are hounding citizens for presumed hate crimes! the end result is that the fabric of society is falling apart in front of your eyes, but you really don't seem to see it!

To question the Telegraph's honesty is just silly. I would probably disagree with most of the opinions in The Guardian, but I'm sure they do their best to fact check what they are reporting. Who would you say are the bastions of truth in the UK, the BBC, The Sun, the Beano, this site?

no the subject of this discussion is lucy connolly. you probably never heard of her but all the details are in this excellent article by allison pearson:

it's behind a paywall but the salient points are:

• lucy connolly wrote this rather disgusting tweet after the southport massacre of three little girls “mass deportation now, set fire to all the f***king hotels full of the bastards for all i care, while you’re at it take the treacherous government and politicians with them. i feel physically sick knowing what these families will now have to endure. if that makes me ******, so be it.”

• within 4 hours she deleted the tweet.

• she played no part in the subsequent rioting, no hotels were burnt down and nobody was hurt due to her tweet.

• 8 days later she was arrested by the thought police and charged with stirring up racial hatred.

• as a backdrop, it should be known that in 2011 she lost her first child due to failures by the nhs. she was diagnosed as suffering with ptsd as a result.

• the murderer of the children in southport was described as a welsh choirboy and it was absolutely “not terror related”. information which is now known to be a completely fabricated lie!

• lucy was a childminder who looked after kids from nigeria, somalia, jamaica, bangladesh, lithuania, and poland.

• her husband is a conservative councillor with health problems who she cares for.

• she was given a duty solicitor with little experience to plead her case.

• the police and cps released a statement that lucy “told officers she did not like immigrants and claimed children were not safe from them". this proved to be a total distortion of what she had actually said in her recorded statements – which were actually quite complimentary about immigrants.

• her duty solicitor advised her to plead guilty because she would get a much softer sentence if she did.

• her bail application was denied even though there was no justification for keeping her in prison. judges were refusing nearly all bail applications connected to the southport riots.

• senior judges were drafted in to handle the riot cases although they would normally be handled in the magistrates’ courts. speculation is that this is because the labour politicians were not happy that magistrates could only impose 12 month sentences.

• references from some of the presents of the children she looked after were produced for her defence. these did not seem to make much difference even thought they were from people of several different races.

• so lucy connolly a woman of impeccable character, with a 12 year old child who acted as her husband carer, and who had never been in any kind of bother with the police was given a 31 month prison sentence.

so make of all that what you will. personally i thinks it's a disgrace and enshrines the idea that the uk

What is your incoherent message supposed to be about. Lucy Connolly was sentenced to 31 months in prison in October 2024. As she entered a guilty plea there was no need for a jury trial. What don't you understand about that?

I think most posters on here would agree it's a BIG con - but the only important thing from the BTPS is the effect on investments - no evidence over the last 10 years that such a move will prove harmful!

Not something I really believe in - but from an investment point of view it probably makes sense as anything regarding making the environment better seems to be looked at favourably in the city!

I’m new to posting on this site, although I’ve occasionally monitored it over the years as there is some interesting information on here from time to time. Sadly, good sites like these are regularly abused by certain types who get pleasure by posting long-winded banal messages repeating the same nonsense over and over again. So, for anyone who is not aware who this guy is I’ll give you my opinion and would be happy for any insights from people who have experienced his drivel over the years:

• He’s an older guy, long since retired without many interests, so has too much time on his hands

• He’s lonely as he has no family anymore – wives long since divorced & kids moved away

• He’s not the kind of guy who spends much time in the pub or socializing with real people

• He went to a grammar school – not a comprehensive and certainly not a public school

• He went to an average University or maybe even a Polytechnic – not one of the Russell Group

• He studied a non-scientific subject and got a moderate degree

• He went on to work in some bureaucratic desk job(s) in the public sector where he felt he was undervalued and passed over for the promotions he deserved

• He bough a moderate family house with a mortgage - so now is cash poor but asset rich which makes him resentful about all the money he has to pay to the Council, and the Government, and the Utility companies

• He bought some BT shares at the top of the market and has regretted it ever since

• He doesn't have a large number of BT shares, but they will likely be his largest holding as many of his others were acquired during the wave of privatizations under the Tories

• He’s not a sophisticated investor so does not have any bonds or gold or especially not crypto – just a few bank accounts and his modest share holdings, and YES some Premium Bonds

• He relies on one or two private pensions for his livelihood, though the income falls well short of his original expectations

• He knows very well that Sunil Mittal has no interest in his opinions whatsoever, but likes to keep mentioning the name for no better reason than to annoy people who are unfortunate enough to read his posts

• He also knows that nobody will be bidding for BT or hiving off Openreach anytime soon but he would like this to happen as it’s his only hope of getting his money back

• He gets kicked off this site on a regular basis given the number of complaints about him, but he regards this a badge of honour, given his main reason for being here in the first place is solely to annoy everyone by making himself the centre of attention

Personally, I’d be inclined to believe what he’s said over the years, even if he’s grown a little shy about it recently. He bought some shares at over £5 and has been bitter and resentful about that ever since. That said, I doubt he’s nursing as large a loss as he makes out—perhaps a few thousand at most. He just doesn’t strike me as someone with a great deal of money to begin with.

I think the main thing your numbers show is that the Rolls-Royce share price is seriously overvalued. So from an investment viewpoint of buying shares in the company, there would seem little upside, minuscule dividends, and enormous risk of a crash.

BP on the other hand are probably a little undervalued (maybe even quite a lot). A fine, well managed company, with good profits, and a healthy dividend. So a great company to invest in......in theory. However, as you know very well the UK Government needs money and there are not many places to go searching for it. So the more profitable a British company is, the higher the risk that Rachel Reeves will come calling - and there are not many companies more profitable than BP.

Better hope this does not happen. Another 50p quite quickly would be nice. But anything along the lines of the rest would have the socialist lining up to invent some sort of new taxes for us. The shares have had a nice steady rise this last year without armttracting too much attention. We need a continuation of this - a slow but sure improvement in the share price along with sensible dividends increases - but all under the radar!!!

I'm not in the slightest bit interested in your financial affairs, but you're the one criticising other people's investment strategies, so it's worth noting that yours have not worked out very well. We all know you are sitting on significant losses as you mention that in some of your rambling posts, so who are you to give advice. Fleccy, on the other hand, seems like an open book regarding his investments, so inferring he's a liar is a bit disingenuous. If you've been following his posts under your numerous aliases over the years, you'd know that the numbers he's just shared align with what he says he was going to do with his investments. His contributions on here are always interesting and helpful, not repetitive drivel from some loser trying to wind people up!

Your 10-year example is not very pertinent when it come s to Fleccy. He says his initial investment in BT was around £3 - not the ~£4.50 in your example. Furthermore, his strategy has paid off well given he reinvested his dividends - often that would have been when the new shares were priced at about £1. So he's ended up with a little profit and every hope it will turn into a lot more as the shares keep rising. You on the other hand will have to wait much longer to get into the black on your original outlay. What price would the shares have to reach? I'd guess around £6 would see you break-even once you take into account inflation.

Why pick 10 years ago for your calculation. Maybe because that's when you made the foolish decision to buy BT shares (at the top of the market)? If you do the calculation for anyone who bought their shares 5 years ago or 15 years ago you'll find that those people have made a handsome profit!

Sure fleeccy knows all that, but he told you exactly where he stands - not a bad position even with inflation, and the share price is heading up we hope. You on the other hand did not reinvest your dividends and are sitting on a BIG fat loss even before accounting for inflation!

Calculating the profit/loss on a share based on a specific time in the past is one of the most pointless exercises I can think of. The Motley Fool do a lot of that and I suppose this particular fool chose June 2015 because that's when he bought his shares (i.e. at the peak price over the last 20+ years). Personally I would never reinvest my dividends in a company, but anyone who bought BT shares anytime over the last 5 years and then reinvested their dividends would be showing a very handsome profit today!

Who cares who actually owns the BT network or backhaul. It's going to be complicated one way or another as everything is owned by the BT Group including Openreach - even it operates as a legally separate entity within the group. In theory the BT BoD can split everything up anyway it wants as it has all the assets under it's wing. In reality it can't - because they agreed to abide by an "Independent Governance Structure" which Ofcom imposed on them back in 2017 when Openreach was carved out as a separate company. There is absolutely no way BT is going to change the status quo in the near future while FTTP is being rolled out. Maybe sometime around 2030, the fate of Openreach will be up for discussion, but a lot can change in the meantime, so all these who-owns.what posts are just meaningless opinions and speculation!
