RE: CityFibre14 Jul 2025 09:58
Interesting articles as ever from you Butmac. I would have a few issues with the top one from ainvest. Maybe somebody could clarify whether I'm missing something here?
They say "the move buys it critical time to scale its fiber network, which currently serves around 5 million UK premises, toward its ambitious target of 8 million by year-end". To the uninitiated this would be taken as the number of customers they have, whilst in reality it means that 5 million households have a CityFibre cable outside their door if they want to connect to it - but hardly anyone actually does want to be connected as there are numerous alternatives, and most people seem to prefer BT going by the "take-up" rates.
Another point which I don't understand in this article is where they say "For investors, CityFibre's story is a high-risk, high-reward proposition. Those with a long-term horizon and tolerance for volatility might see value in its FTTP network and strategic positioning, particularly if the UK's broadband boom accelerates. However, short-term traders should proceed cautiously". This is followed comments like this "I'm holding $CITYF for long term, fibre is the future". But CityFibre is not a listed company, so there are no shares for investors to invest in!
