They reduced their holding on Friday according to the RNS but reported today.

Look at Ashtead Technology, that suffered a similar fate with shorts.

Aah OK that was a purchase back in 2022? This has come down a long way!

What's going on with the prices in that RNS? Nothing like the current price?

The curve on todays chart is strangely controlled. Looks like a projectile coming back to land.

Although there's a lot of mention of the business being undervalued, there doesn't seem like huge interest volume-wise. Moving to the main market was supposed to unlock a stream of potential institutional interest, none of which seems to have materialised.

It could be ripe for takeover, I guess potential buyers would be looking at debt levels to see if they've reduced. In that sense the shorts might stick around until takeover is announced to allow the buyer to get a nice price, and then just close their positions using sales from the likes of FMR who seem to have been lending shares out.

However some are increasing their short positions. JP going below 0.5% makes it look like it is going down significantly however we don't know they're not just sitting at 0.49%

Don't know if this is anything to do with it, or whether SubSea7 are a customer of Ashtead.

SubSea7's recent Q3 report was positive so it seems the subsea industry isn't all that unhealthy.

I wouldn't think there has been a sudden jump in the shares on loan. Probably a steady increase that they're only now just notifying. Can't think if FMR LLC have ever tr1'ed before on AT.

Two 250k ish trades today as well which might be some sort of order being filled to trigger the rns?

That latest RNS might tell a story, looks like that holder is loaning out a significant amount of shares?

Although all the analysts are positive (buy side are usually until the negative news has already broken cover). I wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of "headwind" or reduction in pipeline mentioned in the next update which will give the shorts a nice opportunity. Will be interesting to see what subsea7 say in their Q3 update later this month.
