@Handy.
I would add that I always take 50% of any 'trading' profits and channel that back into my 'main' portfolio.
That way, if/when things do ever go wrong, I will always be able to walk away with my 'safety net' in profit.
Trading has given me some bigger profits more quickly than other sources.
But it's more of a gamble and will always be secondary to my main 'slow & steady' portfolio.

I do but while I've been investing for a while, I'm still a novice at trading (three years) and fell into it by accident.
I noticed "patterns" of volatility in some of the shares I owned (one being UKOG).
I decided to experiment and took £1000 from my portfolio to buy and sell.
That was two years ago and it's become £30k.
But I would never do this with my main portfolio, no matter how successful my trading may become.
I'm in the fortunate position of have already retired early with sufficient funds to see me out.
I like my life as it is and don't need extra funds.
Just seeing how far I can boost what I leave my heirs.
Gives me something to keep busy. :D

UKOG was particularly volatile two years ago.
I sold some shares once and started leaving an advance instruction to buy them all back when the price had fallen another 20%. By the time I'd pressed the send button, a minute later, the trade had already executed and I was looking to sell again.
Way better than the annual bank savings rate.
But there are risks and I am still sitting on shares I bought at a higher price than they are today (that is within my strategy, for the share as I see the price being recovered at some point).
I buy and sell it all the time, within 'ranges'. The price just dictates which trade I'm making.
Then, I wait.

I'm invested in this share.
I have some I'm holding for the long-term and some I trade.
My UKOG holding totals just 0.2% of my entire portfolio.
If you're starting out this is not a good investment, it's a pure gamble with high volatility.
Because of its' volatility I've made a lot from trading it (selling high and buying low).
I like it because there's a potential of some good short and long term profit.
I've already seen something like +1000% over the two years I've been trading it (300% of that came in the first day).
Please be very careful and use the old maxim, "Only invest what you can afford to lose".
Especially with this share.

I don't want to put you off, but I would like to see us all make profit.
Some of the talk you see on here are over-excited, premature, blitherings.
Nothing wrong with that, it's the nature of the beast.
But DYOR and don't be influenced by them.
Also, don't 'panic' buy/sell.

I went for a cheeky 5% this morning, selling at 1.05p and it went straight up to 1.15p almost immediately.
Isn't that always the way.

I own and trade shares in PRSM.
I have done for two years and was lucky enough to get in at £7.30 originally.
My intention was purely to hold for the long-term but accidentally found good profits from trading.
I've made +300% overall so, even if PRSM went bust, I still walk away happy (not as happy as if they hadn't...).
I still have long-term belief in the business, its' forward contracts, and its' backers.
Happy to keep buying more shares at different prices ranges as it falls.
I'll keep trading those and sit on the rest.

In between ranges for me.
Buying more at 0.80 - 0.85p, selling and sitting above 1.15p.
My largest sell is currently in place at 10p.
I don't see that happening again soon.
But I do see it happening again.
I placed it in case we see another lightening spike as we did two years ago (approaching the anniversary too).

I also hold.
In the two years I've been investing in UKOG I've realised much grander returns than I was anticipating.
If they screw it up tomorrow and my current holdings become worthless, I still walk away with 800% profits.
There's value in both approaches (for me).

My next buy is 0.85p.
Perfectly happy for it to keep rising and falling at this rate.
Would take me years to get this kind of interest rate from a bank.

At around 1p per share, 1,000,000 share trades are only worth approx £10k at current avg. value levels.
These transactions, in minor volumes (ones, twos and threes), are insignificant to the overall value of the business.

I own a lot of UKOG shares and buy/sell at different prices all the time.
I set advance instructions and have sell ranges all the way up to £1.00.
When I first got into this I bought at 3.2p and sold at 10p the following day.
Last January I sold and bought back one minute later, as I was setting up the buy instruction, when they fell 20% in a minute.
I automate all my trades but particularly with this share.
When UKOG shares move, it can be the result of excitement and it can happen too quickly for my old, frail, and weak, body and mind to keep up and react in time.

I trade it through its' price ranges but also sit on some.., just in case.
Already made something like 1200% from trading this share (300% in one day), since I got in 2 years ago.
If it does nothing, or goes bust, I shall still walk away in profit.

I'll be dead by then.
It's not fossil fuels that are the problem, it's the population.
I shall be doing my bit for the planet.
