Of Noble, Rigs and Chinese Balloons...5 Feb 2023 18:37
Part 3/cont...
Then it is a question of who gets it first? He1 are ready to go now (subject to a rig) so they could do Tai-3 and then move the rig 50km to do two drills for Noble and still be finished well in time for end November and the rains.
I think in any event Noble and He1 are in a long term symbiotic type relationship, Noble are targeting the basin margin plays, He1 the intra-basin plays, the the licence areas of each contain both type of plays. A discovery for one will boost the other. And if one drill fails it isn't fatal for either company, as they both have other targets and plays to go at.
Sharing a rig and services will give more bang for each buck, more efficiency, they'll save on transportation, be able to get a better crew and be able to offer a 3 (or maybe even 4 drill programme, with savings, think Tai-4, maybe) over 6 months – thus answering the difficulties which have dogged themselves and others in the recent past.
Of course cooperation could also lead to potential problems also, but I think the benefits outweigh these.
With a rest up over the wet season, and He1 fundraise, they could be back drilling in May 2024 with the same rig.
It could even lead to longer term cooperation, between them they have surveyed nearly all of the central lake region and surroundings.
To me this is the obvious solution to out present difficulties and explains why DM became much more circumspect and vague regarding drilling dates between 4th January and 11th January, and they the decision to announce the AGM “early” on 16th January – suddenly he had to take another party into account and they were not yet ready to move, so no rig contract, until April 2023, at least.
Just a few comments (FWIW, if anything) on other matters which people have raised over the last week or so, someone suggested that recent investors in the placing would be cheesed off by the dayays. I don't think so, most of thoise shares would have been churned both pre and post the placing for a quick 15%-20%, very few are still held by the placees.
And no Tr1's, well this company is registered in the BVI, so they are not subject to the Companies Act, not are their investors, so apart for maybe UK institutions who may feel morally obliged, we'll never get a TR1 to know who owns a large stake, if anybody.
And anyone see that Chinese balloon? BANG, it was filled with helium (most of the helium NASA uses is used for weather balloons, not rockets). If there was to be a “balloon war” between China and the US, they're going to need an awful lot of helium.
This is all somewhat speculative, but to me it answers queries I have had regarding recent events and DM's changing attitude towards 2023.
