Doubt much would change if Starmer goes. The same UK trend would continue. More tax, more debt, more reckless overspending, more relative economic decline, and so on. For LLOY, the biggest threat would be extra banking tax, if a Labour headbanger from the far-far-left made it into No.10, such as Rayner. The banks are an easy target.

Surprised at the lack of interest in the Shawbrook Bank IPO today! Made +7% profit in just a few hours. While LLOY tumbled -1% this afternoon.

SHAW IPOed at 370p, at 800am, today. Rose around 5-7% to 390-395p by midmorning.

There's nothing to celebrate here. The shares have halved since Covid, and they're still -60% below the peak of 30 years ago in the last century! Yet another UK firm is delisting from London, weakening the stockmarket further. Yet another UK tech firm is being sold off abroad on the cheap, at a knockdown price. And yet more high-value IP, high-value HQ jobs and high-value salaries will inevitably be syphoned off overseas. Nothing, at all, to celebrate here.

Interesting article on UK bank taxes. A bank listed in London, like LLOY, will pay an astonishing 47% total tax rate in 2025. Half your profit going to the (greedy) UK state! A bank listed in NY, like JP Morgan, pays only 28% tax, about half as much. You can see why NY is a much more attractive stockmarket.

They should've listed RPI in New York. It'd be $10-20 by now.

London just doesn't have the sophistication, enthusiasm, stamina, optimism, drive, liquidity, or deep pockets for modern tech firms. It's the same old London IPO cycle, seen over and over again this century. A burst of short-term hype, followed by relentless medium-term decline, followed lomgterm (probably) by a foreign takeover at a fraction of the original IPO launch-price. Wouldn't be a surprise to see someone like Microsoft or Xiaomi pick this up for a quid in a year or three.

Think you'd have to be very naive to believe the official UK inflation stats. There's no way inflation is only 4%. More like 5-10%, if not more.

Agree, tho, the DCA scandal has been dealt with swifter than expected. A lot of that is due to MoneySavingExpert. Barely a week goes by without them publishing something on it. Big consumer pressure.

To be fair, the UK banks haven't got a leg to stand on. They sold cars with undisclosed, hidden cost of around £1k extra per car (add-on-top commission). If a car-dealer sold you a car with undisclosed, hidden cost of around £1k extra per car (such as a mangled gearbox filled with treacle), everyone in here would be marching round the showroom with an angry red face the very next day! Sell a car with a hidden defect, the car-dealer fixes it. Sell a (car) loan with a hidden defect, the bank must fix it 👍

AI is (allegedly) saving Lloyds Bank staff ~1hr of workload per typical ~8hr day in 2025. For example, using Microsoft Copilot to summarise (shorten) long emails from colleagues. A 5-10% bump in productivity could / should slightly bump up LLOY's profit margin in 2026. Good news for shareholders (assuming the stats are accurate).

The £8b FCA DCA payout ruling is a Brucie bonus for LLOY and the UK banks. Around 80-90% less than it could have been in a worst-case scenario of £50-60b.

With UK inflation around 4-6%, and true inflation probably around 10%, the UK housing marketing, in real terms, is currently plunging 5%+ in H2 2025. The top half of the London house market is crashing, as is the second-home market in Cornwall. This is rippling out nationwide. Add in the profit crash of BTLs (due to tax), and you've got a perfect storm of ongoing decline. We're now in a post-housing market.

Keep in mind that Labour are not capitalists. They are Marxists. Your role, as a taxpayer, is to feed the state. Primacy of the state is paramount. The economy is secondary.

Really, it is *public* pensions that need (urgently) to be rightsized. It's wholly unmerited that a public "worker" typically gets a staggering 20-40% pension contribution, while a private worker in a factory or office typically gets about 5%. It's a grotesque imbalance that must be rebalanced. Normalising public and private pensions will save the taxpayer around £10-30b a year, and there need be no more tax rises in Nov 2025. Time to rightsize *public* pensions.
