Yes, it was stated (quietly) in a Treasury document a few months ago. Council tax everywhere in the UK will go up by the max +5% a year, every single year, until 2030. The path is already decided. Some may go higher, perhaps +10% at times.

There's also rumours that bands D and above will be extended and hiked at some point. Wouldn't be a surprise to see a band-F house paying £10k+ a year in council tax by 2030. Council tax is basically now a 2nd mortgage. People need to start saving and planning for a future where they'll be paying 2 mortgages in the late-2020s and beyond. One to the bank, and one to the state (council).

It's becoming clear now that Labour's ID card is being driven by the EU law, EIDAS 2.0, which mandates all states must have digital ID papers by 2026.

Yes, it's one of the biggest delusions of our time that so many on the far-left think the UK is "wealthy" and a fruit tree to be stripped for their spending fantasies. UK GDP per-head (under Labour) recently fell below South Korea, and will soon fall below Poland. And with quantum right around the corner, those creaking state IT systems are only going to become less and less secure.

Be careful what you wish for... Your last post alone contains at least 5 thoughtspeak violations. Rude words and unauthorised opinions the state will not like. With ID papers, your social media and Internet access will have been turned off about 10mins ago, a £50 social fine extracted already from your Lloyds bank account, and a thoughtcrime marker attached (for eternity) to your digital ID. You're not as safe from the state as you think you are. Be careful what you folks wish for 👍

The world is full of useful idiots... The Tories are nearly as far to the Left as Labour, these days. It's why they lost the election in 2024. Blue has become red.

Mission creep here is a given. Once the ID door opens, it will never shut. It will only ever get worse. More intrusive, more oppression, less dignity. HMRC has just been granted the power to extract cash from private bank accounts. The state is already dipping into people's savings. This is just the start.

And we haven't even got onto cost, and hacking. This is going to waste tens of billions of pounds. You, the taxpayer, will pay for it. That means yet more tax hikes to come, to feed the voracious state, which will then use your own money to track and punish you via ID papers. What's more, the Russians will be licking their lips. There is no way this will be secure, it will be hacked, and, when it's linked to your Internet access / bank account / location, it will open up millions of citizens to unimaginable extortion.

Anyone who thinks this is "just" a little ID Card is naive beyond belief.

Marxism is tightening her grip on the UK. This is not just an ID Card, it will also be a Locator Card, a Tracker Card, a Bank Card, and a Gateway Card. Your smartphone is geo-locatable and geo-trackable. It will know where you are, always. You want to post on social media, like LSE, login with your ID Card. The state doesn't like your thoughtspeak on social media, switch off their Internet access. Your social media posts are not state-authorised, lower their social score in the ID Card, dip into their bank account, extract a social fine. Anyone who thinks this is going to be "just" an ID Card are beyond naive.

UK bank shares move in lockstep with US bank shares. As long as the Dow keeps on going up, and US banks are in fashion, UK bank shares will keep on going up. Only a cataclysmic bank tax, like the one floated by the Lib Dems a few days ago, can sink UK bank shares back down again.

The claimed £100-150b UK "investment" was just loose change down the back of the sofa for Silicon Valley. Starmer desperately needed something to justify the 2nd US state visit and deflect critics. It was masterclass in deflection.
