Would a 100m mcap company be considered big enough to attract private equity in this industry?

A move to the main market maybe something they would consider in 3/4 years or so. I don't think it would make any difference currently. It's typically for companies above 500m Mcap. As for foreign investors although they can invest currently who is going to consider a company that pretty much trades almost exclusively in the Uk with low levels of profitability and margin. A couple of large buys went through yesterday with I hoped may have been PMDR buys but it seems not so far.

The headline figures are certainly impressive but the business growth and profitability is substantially driven by freight. The express division has significantly reduced profitability down from 22.9m to 12.4m on the same turnover and I'm not sure the drop off in exchange turnover is solely responsible. Despite the uptake in parcels in express it isn't very profitable at all. Bearing in mind there is 20/25m expansion plan together with funding for possible aqquisitions I wonder if it can all be funded from existing resources and future profitability Thats a big question for me?. I'm not so sure it can.

As someone said why on earth aren't they focussing on freight especially with a major competitor exiting the business and there are such high barriers to entry. They can completely dominate this field especially as more businesses are beginning to stockpile stock in the UK because of world wide supply chain problems as DX state said.

Not really surprised where the SP is today we knew the figures would be good. Maybe it will come if the Directors buy in the short term. As ports said they talk a good game... will they back it up?

ops vacancies back up to 316 an increase of 70 +so far this week.I think there is little doubt they are struggling to fill them so many are rollovers. It must be affecting performance as you wouldn't advertise if you didn't need them. The question is to what degree?

Quite easy really. It just a matter of doing your homework. If you monitor the vacancies regularly and their location you can pretty much work out recruitment for new and expanding depots and what is rolled over. It’s not an exact science but I think it is a good guide as to what is going on before it is rns’d to the markets when it is done and dusted.

On the assumption the supply chain improves so there are plenty of presents to buy and send.

interesting that Smiths News. were reporting inflationary pressures in the distribution labour market today.I think we know this applies industry wide.DX should certainly be able to pass this on in certain aspects of their business.

Back up to 295 Vacancies within 48 Hours. an increase of 53. There must be some rollover of unfilled vacancies otherwise DX must have a major labour problem.

I'm sure you'll do whats right for your business Ports.Interesting that in Royal Mails update of late September they say that they think the domestic parcels market will be sustained above pre covid levels which I suppose proves the business is there for DX to exploit in the courier sector.I take your point though that soldiers on the ground are the most important to exploit it.Soon after this update Royal Mails SP followed the similar percentage fall to DX in late Sept/October which have been bad months for sentiment.

The announcement yesterday was welcome but there has been no real sentiment reaction, it hasn’t to date stimulated any significant demand so the markets are pretty blasé about it. Maybe that will change next week as we get closer to results. I feel DX have to answer the question everyone is thinking in a bit of detail. To what extent is current trading being affected by the current labour shortages and supply chain problems and is it affecting current and future expansion plans??. I hope we get that in the results RNS.

DX have of course issued a one line trading update saying that trading in the new financial year is in line with expectations but really they need to address the elephant in the room.

True but my view is that Wincanton and Clipper are much bigger businesses and more established.
Dx are the disruptors if you like and the hardest position to be in and more likely to be buffeted in this climate. I don't run a business but If I did I'd probably use the established business rather than the new kid on the block certainly in the current economic situation.There has been very little sp growth if any this calendar year despite lots of positive news and the growth last year came from Director buying/depot growth rather than financials.We have a good guide as to what the figures will be from year end from previous company announcements and the markets know this.Unless of course the markets feel there is more to it than GT just making a mess of things. But the Auditor that posted doesn't feel this is the case. I guess we'll see how the markets react when we eventually get the figures.Dx could ofcourse choose to reassure the markets at any time with a trading update but nothing is forthcoming.

Ports.I don't think the offer euro drivers will affect DX.I thought they were short term contracts ending December/March to help with the short term problems. I do take your point moving forward.DX must be swimming against the tide with driver and staff shortages and would seem common sense not to burden with expansion if there are labour shortages in the business.

I don't think the Grant Thornton shambles is the cause of the depressed SP.It hasn't helped but sentiment is so negative towards the sector and Dx are affected more than most as they are the new kid on the block trying to expand in this climate. It's probably not a time to be all things to everyone which Dx seem to want to be.

I think we'll see some immigration changes next year as there is very little new young blood coming into the industry. The road haulage association has some very interesting comments on all this.I know of a coach operator in my neck the woods who has lost five drivers to HGV as they can earn over 25% more at the moment.

Inspite of all that I have bought in again today.Target price for me 40p which I hope to see in Mid to late 2022.It will be interesting to see if there are any PDMR buys after results declaration as I can't see the SP will be very far from its current levels.

Ports.. Thanks for pointing it out. I think it's a really clear and concise website and a nice interview with lloyd. Much brighter and customer focussed and tells a good story. Everything seems easy to find. I like that they only put the 5 star trust pilot reviews on the website. Not daft are they.

I have been in Warrington for a few days visiting family. Yesterday the opportunity existed to visit a retail park that had both DFS and SCS. I don't have shares in DFS but they had few people in but the shopping environment looked like they,d just plonked sofas in a space giving no thought to marketing or anything. I found it quite depressing. In contrast the SCS store was warm,bright with background music playing. It looked like some thought had been given to merchandise,marketing etc and as a shareholder it looked like a better shopping experience. So we proceed to walk round being followed almost stalked by a member of staff who didn't engage in the slightest. Perhaps he thought we may try to walk out with a sofa under my arm. After waking a member of staff up who seemed to be dozing off on one of the chairs .we faked interest in a sofa that was in prime spot in the front of the store. 14 weeks delivery we were told. I asked if the sofa was made in the UK or Asia. We got that look that said I hadn't a clue . I asked if they were busy.. yes came the reply.

SCS sales are all over Granada TV but I wonder how they sell anything with those two asleep at the wheel. Perhaps I am missing something.
