One of the best things we ever did was join up to American Express AVIOS Air Miles. Using air miles and a voucher they give you called a companion voucher if you spend £10,000 a year + with them (which allows your travelling companion to travel free with you) we have managed to do some amazing long haul stuff once a year in First or Business for less than the cost of Economy.

Heck of a lot of decent buys going through and very few sales; certainly optimism in the air again. At least the gas and electrics and the impending (utterly ridiculous) fuel hike are covered now in our family budget!

Seem to recall it was a Nature article a couple of years ago that helped turbo charge the SAR price for a while?

I think many of us in since 2010 feel the same and hope we will be around to see the FI story come to fruition. Life is like an hour glass and the sand seems to slip through more quickly as you near the end.
It’s been a helluva ride though .. I think our generation has been the luckiest of all time (born in 1955) living in a golden age of peace, freedom, comedy and music and increasing prosperity until wokism and utterly incompetent politicians came along to ruin the party.

BOR touched 7p in May last year.
Interest seems to be warming up again.
If the Falkkands doesn’t start moving to first oil in next 2 years I do wonder if it ever will.
I think I would sell half my holding in BOR at 15p and half my holding in RKH for 40p and hold the rest and hope my 12 year wait will be properly rewarded on the rest.

£40 a share is of course wildly optimistic but £14 a share which values SAR at £1 billion is most certainly not out of the question based on other deals and if success is achieved on one of the 3 key products. I would be thrilled with that for the final chunk of my holding

I sold a third in August last year
My triggers now are to sell
5% of my remaining holding at each of
£2, £3, £4 etc up to £14 (the fabled old 28p)
That would leave me with 30% of my current holding that I would hang on to until takeover.
That’s the dream .. probably hopelessly optimistic but it gives me a plan at least.

No news for a couple of weeks now though after Director buying

Not really relevant SCH to having an opinion on something but since you ask and since I have the numbers at my finger tips and really sorry to continue to bore others (!!) .. I qualified as an accountant at 24 then built and sold 3 businesses over the next 44 years all at my own risk and expense with no security of tenure or guaranteed pension. Worked on average 60 hours a week for the whole period and drove almost 2 million miles on business for an average annual salary that works out at around £67,500 a year over 47 years. Income supplemented by some luck investing in the stock market to build a decent pension including securing a gain of over 100% overall on SAR when I sold a third in August last year leaving me with a free ride on the balance. Hope that helps and sorry to bore everyone else!! Nurses earn 35,000 a year on average some earn more some earn less and I don’t understand why they are forced to do degrees .. totally unnecessary and they never needed to in the past and it is a real barrier to entry for lots of potentially great nurses (lots of nurses have expressed their frustration to me on this).

It is a real problem getting reliable information on average (mean) and median pay and you can go round in circles trying to get accurate and real
Information for each sector in order to make these discussions meaningful!
The bigger problem we have is as a country living way beyond its means. In 2007 before the financial crisis U.K. Debt to GDP was 35% now it is basically 100%. This is unsustainable. Everyone is going to have to cut their living standards and get real .. in the late 50’s prime minister MacMillan said “you’ve never had it so good” and in my view we have to reconsider individual spending patterns. In 1957 50% of household spending was on housing, heat and light and food and 10% was on leisure activities. In 2019 it was 38% on housing heat light and food and 23% on leisure activities. A lot of people will have to rebalance spending to when we never had it so good.

I’m sure we can agree it’s good to see SAR moving up again but we are unlikely to agree on striking workers! A fair living wage will always be subjective. I believe all the groups of workers we are currently talking about are paid a decent wage but it is something we are unlikely to agree on. Nurses average pay is around 35,000 a year which is about the national average for pay generally. Rail workers, border force workers etc earn considerably more so no sympathy for them at all especially when it inflicts misery on people who have had enough misery over last 3 years.

Totally sympathy re dozy doctors don’t know what’s the matter with them (and don’t get me going on nurses and rail workers and postal workers and border control workers; at a time when everyone is struggling it reeks of selfishness - they will all have been paid normally for 2 years during Covid and now want to inflict more misery - my solution, although impossible in practice, would be to say to private sector workers (shops, restaurants, pubs, fuel stations etc) do not provide services to strikers and see how they like it)!!

I mentioned this a few weeks ago. I have had all 4 Covid jabs, flu jab, pneumonia jab and shingles jabs and also had mild Covid earlier in the year but I have now been suffering from a rotten cold, sore throat, coughing, sore tongue for nearly a month and can’t shake it off. Never had anything like it before and seriously wonder if all the jabs have reduced my immunity to colds and flu?? It feels really weird!

I would suggest the potential for good news in the reasonably short term (1-3 months) has returned so I think the price may drift up over the next few weeks in anticipation

It seems the competition for Christmas number 1 is a two horse race between Status Quo Down Down Deeper and Down and 5th Dimension Up Up and Away .. don’t think any other contenders in the reckoning any more and too close to call!

No surprise there .. HSBC showed their true colours earlier this year when they got rid Stuart Kirk one of their senior guys who had the temerity to question and criticise the climate change fanatics; he produced good sensible arguments but HSBC were totally intolerant; I’m considering moving my personal and business accounts away from them now after over 50 years banking with them (previously Midland); they are indeed bloody idiots!

I sense a lot of pots calling the Ahfam kettle black here in terms of ramping .. with the share price falling the derampers, who are a fairly pointless breed at the best of times, are currently holding sway .. my guess (and all any of us can do is guess) is that SAR will be in the 95% of CTA applications that succeed and when the RNS drops to confirm this we will see a re rate back over £1.50 almost immediately
