Paid Deramping?19 Aug 2018 11:28
I have always been very sceptical as to if and how this occurs. While I have no doubt that there are isolated cases of an orchestrated group ramp or de-ramp could it actually occur on a formal basis? Well I have had the dubious fortune to have been invested where a big spike has been followed by a long and painful re-trace. Take the case of Sound - on the spike you immediately get the first wave of naysayers (often providing a useful antidote to the hysterical group think) but the vast majority of these are simply transparently incensed at having missed the rally. Then something else happens and the relentless trolls are at it day after day, in the case of Sound they needn't have bothered, 2 failed drills did it for them (still believe it will come good fellow Sounders!!). Having watched this close up the de-rampers fall into many camps including I believe holders who find it cathartic to express their frustration and get misunderstood leading to ongoing personal battles. I watched that at Sound where one regular poster dared to suggest a quick low ball sell out and gradually morphed into public enemy number one. You also can't rule out the odd internet crank who has just found a little corner of the net where it is incredibly easy to wind people up (that is where people are in fear of losing their dosh). It was only when SOU found it's base and the highest profile de-rampers disappeared that I started to seriously consider the possibility that the campaign was organised. To be honest I still don't know if they're simply individuals looking for a good entry point to go long or closing a short but look out for the telltale signs - apparently well informed, relentless posting throughout the day and usually a cool often emotionally detached style of posting. Sorry for the epic, thought it might make a change to discuss this one. Right have to finish assembling a child's flat pack bunk bed, instructions said assembly time 1.5 hrs - now on day 2!!
