Took about 3-4 days of daily increases. That felt like shorts managing an exit. This feels different somehow but could still be the same pending results.
I think Alibaba chatter is probably imagined although seems to have come out nowhere and is plausible even if improbable, making the prospect intriguing if nothing else.

No offence, but most of us are underwater still. I will hold off with popping any fizz until this is over 100p at least. ATB

One way or another now. But a few days of double digit % rises beforehand is not out of the question. IMO

Licker, Moniman, not disputing your analysis but reality is once Sep comes and the golden share expires, a hostile bid is inevitable. We may not last to see the real value materialise. I hope I am wrong as have a decent about invested here (15% of my portfolio currently) and would love to see a significant upside. I am in no rush to sell and if anything added at 47 recently. ATB

Will be hard to reject this bid again. I suspect this will be the figure ultimately but MM may well decide at that price, he will take it private. IMO of course. I too am hoping for 2.50 but TBH, after this ride, 1.70 will be tempting. Still nearly 3 bag from current price so most new punters will be more than happy with 1.70, including the Qatari fund.

They really need to make it mandatory for companies to clarify why share price is moving (or say, know no reason etc) - for say more than a 10% change. Otherwise it just encourages speculation (?gambling) or gives the city big wigs way too much advantage with a heads up on what is coming. I know the system is inherently set up to favour the big wigs so nothing will change. Just venting! At least the SP is recovering and my THG is less in red!

Steady at about 80. Feel this is in the right area to ensure good profits while not causing a large drag on the economy. Hopefully we will push on past 500p soon. Atb

The inflation crisis is coming to an end as pressure eases on the high street after months of surging costs, the chief executive of Next has said.

Simon Wolfson suggested that disruption caused by Covid and Russia's invasion of Ukraine is starting to fade, in a boon for millions of consumers suffering from price rises.

It came as Next and other retailers revealed better than expected Christmas sales figures in a sign that the beleaguered industry is weathering the storm.

While there is “no question next year is going to be a tough year”, Lord Wolfson said, discussions with Next's suppliers have given him cause for hope.

He said: “We can see inflation in garments coming down.

"What we can see at the moment, because we're negotiating for stock to be delivered in five to six months' time... is the things that cause our prices to go up in the first place, all are slowly reversing.”

Len, agree with this. Bank analysts forecasts are a joke. Probably delegated to a work experience person who decides this on an abacus. I don't know anyone who takes these seriously anymore. ATB

Agree Charlie, debt reduction was very astute and despite the loss of Russian assets, BP is in a much better position than before. In hindsight, investing heavily in renewables before the prices went silly was another excellent strategic decision. Looney may not be that daft after all!

Was very surprised the SP fell as far as it did but did not add as was not comfy increasing my holding. Easy in hindsight to know i was wrong!! Anyway, I am still holding and breathing a bit easier now!!

Some of us a so far down this little rabbit hole - it matters not if it goes bust. I for one will see how this plays out. We live and learn. ATB

When this expires in the Autumn, if VC's offer the Qatar folk, even 100p for their share, that will double their investment - neat return in a year. Time is ticking for MM to make a move. 2023 will not be boring that is for sure. Lets face it, for current share holders it can't get worse!
