I've always believed there's more money to be made by a falling share price than a rising share price, CB, and those who are prepared to short trade, generally do very well. It's not for me because I'm an investor rather than a trader, although I will occasionally top-slice, and try to buy on the dips.
My view on yesterday's share price is that the market makers were very keen to drop it. Is it to spook investors into selling? There'll clearly be a financial gain reason behind it, but unless there were massive sells that are yet to be declared, there was no logical reason for the drop. As I said, buys and sells were 50/50, only 0.18% of the share issue was traded, yet the share price dropped 7%.
In my view it could well be that the market makers are trying to accumulate stock because they know news is close. A classic 'tree shake' is clearly a device to encourage selling when market makers need shares, but for a tree shake to look impressive, there needs to be lots of trading. This is like a slow motion tree shake!
