We’re thrilled to announce that QNX and Vector have today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop and deliver a Foundational Vehicle Software Platform. 🚗 The next-generation solution is designed to help accelerate the development of software-defined vehicles (SDVs) and reduce the complexity of automotive software integration.

🗓️ An early demonstration of the Foundational Vehicle Software Platform will be showcased at Automobil-Elektronik Kongress on June 24–25, where QNX and VECTOR Informatik, together with TTTech Auto will jointly present additional technical and strategic insights.

additional research and new technology will be needed before easa can recommend moving forward on its concept of permitting single-pilot operations on large commercial aircraft that presently require two pilots.”

a new report from easa is calling for further study into 5 key areas, namely:

- pilot incapacitation monitoring,

- fatigue and drowsiness,

- sleep inertia,

- cross-checks, and

- physiological needs

easa has highlighted the need for ****pit designs to support these, prior to a move towards single pilot ops. frustratingly though, no mention of crm and human factors!

there is however still plans to work towards both extended minimum crew ops (emcos - single pilot during cruise phases) and potentially single-pilot operations (sipos - end to end single pilot ops).

Today was an incredible opportunity to be invited to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Driver Drowsiness and Distraction Warning Systems Working Group at the OICA offices in Paris, presenting ideas for enhanced global regulations that target drowsy driving.

It was also a great chance to catch-up with many colleagues again including Peter Burns. Opportunities like this to help make impact globally is what drew me into the world of human factors and safety many years ago.

QNX, a division of BlackBerry Limited today announced that the QNX® Software Development Platform (SDP) 8.0 will be the foundational operating system for The Eclipse Foundation’s Safe Open Vehicle Core (S-CORE) Project, helping to accelerate the group’s efforts to turbocharge automaker Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) development timelines and reduce costs in moving projects from research to production and onto roads. This marks an important milestone in the development of a common, open, and safety-critical software platform for the automotive industry.

The S-CORE project is a collaborative open-source initiative under the Eclipse Foundation Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) Working Group. It brings together leading major automakers, suppliers, and technology partners – including BMW Group, Mercedes-Benz AG, Bosch, ETAS, Qorix, and Accenture – to develop an open-source core stack for SDVs, specifically targeting embedded high-performance Electronic Control Units (ECUs).

Revealed June 16, 2025, the MY26 AUDI AG #Q3 is visually confirmed with the Magna International Seeing Machines #occupant #monitoring #mirror at start-of-production. Compliance with Advanced Driver Distraction Warning #ADDW for #GSR is finally accelerating the #DMS #OMS market for vehicles to be sold in Europe. Seen clearly through the mirror glass is the #CMOS image sensor in the center of the mirror, and to the right (circled in red) are the now familiar IR LED illuminators. Discussed at the Seeing Machines Town Hall in London at the beginning of April was a second phase of the rollout of the Magna mirror program later this year. The assumption now is this was reference to start-of-production across most, if not all, of the VW Group and Audi AG model portfolio to be sold in Europe. Likely to now be included in that program is also Porsche AG.

Developments at VW and Audi reinforce the importance of cars on road numbers to validate the business case and PR claims of software suppliers such as Smart Eye and Seeing Machines. Audi DMS: Smart Eye or Seeing Machines? I wrote some analysis and the summary is in the slide below. The AUDI AG #Q6L has reached start-of-production (SoP) with Smart Eye DMS but Magna International Seeing Machines is at SoP for other VW Group branded models, and Magna supplies almost all VW brands with electronic mirrors.
