With all the focus of the #automotive #tech industry on Munich for IAA MOBILITY, the news coming out of Washington from MADD related to #impaireddriving prevention hasn’t received as much attention. The two important developments highlighted by MADD are:

Seeing Machines introduced impairment detection technology that can identify a #BAC [blood alcohol content] as low as .05.

Insurance Institute for Highway Safety / Highway Loss Data Institute established a new gold standard in vehicle #safety - requiring anti-drunk driving technology for a perfect safety score. Details: https://lnkd.in/e_aHKTKA

If the nominee for National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA Administrator gets Senate approval we can expect huge changes in road safety tech in the U.S. in short order. An impaired driving #FMVSS is almost certainly written and ready to go, and IIHS will score for impaired driving prevention irrespective of the outcome of the vote.

Really big developments in D.C. this week. Think of them as being as significant as #GSR and Euro NCAP - For Safer Cars, Vans & Trucks 2026 for Europe.

Yesterday, former MADD Presidents Tess Rowland and Wendy Hamilton took the chance to see the tech that will help stop drunk driving. Wendy lost her sister to a drunk driver, and Tess was hit, head-on by a drunk driver. Both MADD Presidents have been champions of the Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving which calls for advanced alcohol detection technology to prevent impaired drivers from operating a vehicle. #seeingmachines' announcement at MADD’s 45th Anniversary in Washington brings that vision one step closer to reality.

This is very encouraging & could be very good for SEE if management can get to us above 20p before Mitsubishi make us an offer we can’t refuse;

They only owned 7% of Nozomi before this announcement so they were more invested in us than them.

Hate to say it but we are not the first to this milestone, Smarteye launched the first & Martin Kranze is also in MADD event & is presenting.

Obviously I know we have the better technology & would have waited till we had absolute conviction on what we can deliver but we now need to win new business for proof of product.

It’s GAME on, just wish Seeing Machines share trajectory matched Smarteye which we all know is smoke & mirrors! But hey someone is making money & we are not !

The partnership between Magna International and Seeing Machines for the occupant monitoring mirror is gaining visibility as the NDA restrictions start to lift. We all know the first OEM to reach SoP is Volkswagen because they are presenting the mirror with Magna at InCabin Barcelona. Here is a shot of the mirror in operation in the current Magna demo vehicle; thanks to Rafael and Felix for talking me through it.

The mirror development plan is something to behold. I’m not under NDA but there are parts of the roadmap I won’t reveal, anyway you can see it for yourself in Barcelona. Also launched here at IAA MOBILITY is the Magna Gen. 2 mirror, but that is for another post. Mercedes could learn a thing or two about optical path integration based on the new CLA, that’s for sure.

The run up to #NCAP26 and the #ADDW deadline next July is going to be very exciting. Every OEM selling light vehicles in Europe has made their decisions, we just don’t know what they are yet.

Think it’s pretty rotten when PMG gives the big bold statement of having the largest order book potential in the history of GEN3 & doesn’t back it up with results.

It's obvious you are an Ultra Tobi fan, you should ask why your CEO has left the company if they were on the cusp of launching with BMW!

Why “probably not Tobii”

For Tobii to be in the iX3/Neue Klasse, BMW would need to bypass Valeo’s integrated stack or dual-source software — which would go against Valeo’s 2024 deal with Seeing Machines.

No press release, investor filing, or BMW communication has linked Tobii to Neue Klasse or iX3.

Tobii’s automotive revenues are currently much smaller scale than Valeo+Seeing Machines’ footprint.

✅ Conclusion:

Given Valeo is the named BMW Tier-1 and Valeo’s DMS software is now Seeing Machines’, it’s highly unlikely that Tobii is the supplier on iX3. Unless BMW set up a separate interior-sensing track (no evidence yet), Tobii isn’t the one under the mirror

Short answer: we can’t be 100% certain yet because neither BMW nor Valeo/Seeing Machines has publicly named the iX3’s DMS/OMS supplier. But the best non-forum evidence points strongly to Valeo as Tier-1 (hardware/integration) using Seeing Machines’ perception software.

Why that’s the most likely combo (with sources):

BMW chose Valeo for Neue Klasse ADAS, including the ADAS domain controller and sensors. Coverage at the time explicitly called out a new multifunctional interior camera for driver drowsiness/distraction on Neue Klasse vehicles. That’s your DMS/OMS.

In July 2024, Valeo and Seeing Machines announced a strategic collaboration where Valeo transferred its driver-monitoring perception software activity to Seeing Machines and said it would integrate SM’s expertise into Valeo’s driver & occupant monitoring systems. That makes SM the logical perception stack inside Valeo’s interior-sensing offering going forward.

BMW and Seeing Machines already have a documented relationship (BMW showcased SM’s FOVIO driver-monitoring tech at CES). That doesn’t name iX3, but it does show history between the two.

What would make it rock-solid (what to watch for):

Start-of-production (SOP) press notes from Valeo or Seeing Machines naming BMW/iX3 or “first Neue Klasse model.”

BMW ETK/parts catalog entries once published; supplier codes often reveal the Tier-1.

Independent teardowns (Munro, iFixit, etc.) that show module labels.

Euro NCAP technical partner booklets for iX3 that sometimes credit DMS suppliers.

Side note on timing (since it came up earlier): BMW says the iX3’s series production begins late 2025 (Debrecen), with Europe deliveries in spring 2026 and U.S. in summer 2026—so not Q1 2026 for EU SOP.

Bottom line: Based on BMW↔Valeo Neue Klasse ADAS + Valeo↔Seeing Machines DMS collaboration, the camera “under the mirror” on iX3 is very likely a Valeo interior-sensing unit running Seeing Machines software—pending an SOP/parts confirmation

So, just to be clear for all genuine SEE investors.

Are we really going to sit back and let BMW roll out their new models, including the XI3, with massive global fanfare without leveraging any of that free marketing and promotion?

If that’s the case, then we must be the most NDA-bound company on the planet. The missed opportunity to showcase our DMS in what is arguably BMW’s biggest launch in years is staggering. PMG & Martin - Don’t miss this opportunity??
