Signs of progress in Kabwe? At least the new government seems to have more of a sense of urgency.

The government says it is committed to finding the long-term solution to lead contamination in Kabwe and treating it as a matter of urgency.

Minister of Mines and Mineral Development Paul Kabuswe says the government through the Zambia Mining Environmental Remediation and Improvement Project have undertaken a study on contaminated lead hotspots and identified the extent of the contamination on the surface and the function of the depth.

Mr. Kabuswe said the project in its attempt to reduce lead exposure to lead health risks has identified the Kabwe main canal as a conduit of stormwater containing hazardous material and waste from closed mining areas passing through densely populated residential areas.

Speaking when he commissioned the rehabilitation of 6.05 kilometers Kabwe main canal at a cost of K54 million by Down Touch Contractors, Mr. Kabuswe said 12, 000 children under the age of five were screened and over 1,500 who had blood lead levels above 45 micrograms were treated.

And the Project Acting National Project Coordinator Pamela Mwanza said the commissioning of the Kabwe main canal will help improve the hydraulic flow of the hazardous materials and waste from the closed mining.”

Load shedding is definitely a major issue in South Africa at the moment and it will have some effect on the bottom line, either through lost production time or generator fuel costs. It might be worthwhile to contact the company and ask them to discuss this in the next update. A brief search of recent articles on Amplats, SLP and THS which mention load shedding suggest that they are all using emergency power to minimise disruption, although this article on Amplats suggested that smelting may be affected by stage 6 load shedding:

It does highlight the importance of expanding into multiple countries and not leaving all of your eggs in one basket! Zambia currently has a surplus of power and is planning to sell it to neighbours. Another positive.

Latest satellite image suggests more movement in Botswana. I’m wondering if they are having samples analysed locally as they moved on to diamond core drilling pretty quickly.

There are more fake accounts posting here than genuine ones lately… just shows how highly prized they think this company is going to be. They wouldn’t be wasting effort on a “lifestyle company”.

A bit of background on the refinery at Kabwe and the reasons why Jubilee chose to go with a brownfield rather than greenfield option.

“ Jubilee said the refinery would save it from having to build another, reducing the waiting period before first metal was delivered by around 18 months to within a year of the acquisition. It would also reduce the project capital to produce first metal by around £18.32 million”.

It's pretty much the same agreement that FQM did with Zamare Minerals, who also have a license adjacent to the FQM Trident area and close to our Southern Zaco / Handa areas. They are clearly keen to find more resources nearby which could extend the life of the Sentinel project.

If you have any doubts that the deal with AAL won't go though then you really haven't been paying attention to what's going on!

They have built a large ownership in THE most promising acreage left in the Copperbelt, identified SEVERAL potential large orebodies, got the attention of multiple major mining companies, secured the "best ever deal" a junior exploration company has ever agreed with a major. Personally I think they have more than delivered.

Bumble if only Peggy had followed your sage advice he wouldn’t have sold at the very bottom of the market. You need to show a bit more backbone if you want to invest in the AIM market. Don’t be like Peggy :-)

You DID tell us all about selling out at the very bottom of the market though and I will always take huge delight in reminding everyone about that! True or not I really don't care... :-)

To be honest I don’t see many genuine bears in this stock… just traders looking to make a few quid on the ups and downs. Exploration always comes with a degree of risk so I’d be stupid to say this is a nailed on certain winner, but the evidence is pretty overwhelmingly positive, if you understand what you’re looking at. Also you can pretty much guarantee the share price will be at least double where we are now once the drills start turning, just in anticipation of results! At that point you could de-risk if that’s your strategy or wait for results to come in. Either way for me it’s an absolute no brainier at the current share price.

VS, if I was worried about short term share performance I’d be a nervous wreck! Or worse still I might have sold at the bottom of the market like Peggy did :-)

I listened again and still have the same understanding. Leon at one point said that previously the greenfield option would have been the best choice, allowing a bespoke design, but increasing costs and supply problems have made the brownfield option more attractive. Maybe that was always the case but the greenfield option has never been mentioned to investors up until this point. However you read it the fact is there are two options still on the table and we should know by the end of October at the latest.

For me, one of the key points that Leon made was how much they had learned already from the Sable / Roan project in terms of construction and optimisation, so future builds would be much simpler and faster to complete.

You can always rely on Peggy to show up when the price drops back a bit :-) What was it you sold at? 2.6p wasn’t it? Strange that you have nothing to say when the price goes up… only when it goes down! If you were any more transparent you would disappear completely.
