My understanding of the "no win no fee " arrangement is that the lawyers take no direct risk of failure, they insure their costs against it. The price of insurance is obviously high but that is deducted from any winnings before any successful claimants are paid out. The lawyers never lose and never had throughout history. No it's really "no win, no fee, no risk" litigation.

Paul, there must be some intrinsic truth in the "no win, no fee" notion that lawyers sometimes expect to lose, but working on the balance of probabilities over a portfolio of cases, they ought to make enough fees to prosper. So just because a law firm takes a case on, it does not mean they automatically expect to win it. So I think the RKH response to your question is a bit disingenuous.

That said, it's more than sad that the fate of a successful explorer in the South Atlantic now rests on the outcome of a dodgy arbitration case against a dodgy government in Italy, where failure might be fatal.

Why would a 3.18% holder have any influence in the company? You need 10% to call an EGM and 25% to block a vote at an EGM. He might think it's a good long term investment and that is that. I doubt Giles thinks he has any influence with 3 times as many as Mr Ward.

Brocal53, the London Stock Exchange only reports trade size and price. Is it an impossiblity to accurately deduce from the price and spread whether the trade was a buy or sell. The reporting of buys and sells based on mid point algorithms, as above on this website is pointless, and that is a piece of accurate information.

If Gary Smith was the person many thought he was, with an O&G background he may have liked the idea of a RTO of another O&G company, but that was not to be, thanks to oil price collapse and supply glut. I doubt he saw his future in recycling Coke bottles.

Now if they introduce a recycling charge in Scotland, but not in England, there is a fantastic business in carting waste plastic bottles from Carlisle to Gretna to cash them in.
