Mother vessels can no longer berth directly at Payra due to the shallowing of the Rabnabad Channel.

As a result, imported coal is first offloaded at Chattogram Port and then transported via lighter vessels to Payra, increasing transportation costs.

The coal yards at the Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Limited are already overflowing while fresh supplies are coming in every day as the Chinese contractor lifting the coal has refused to comply with requests to suspend operations.

The China National Machinery Import and Export Company, responsible for mining the coal, has refused to listen to repeated requests made by the Barapukuria coal mine co to suspend its production or letting it up for a while, said Shaiful Islam Sarkar, managing director, BCMCL.

That’s a question that we would all love to know the answer to, but in truth, until we get an official RNS no one really knows, and can’t answer your question….

What I will say is that we know that we don’t need the fundraising until July 2025, so with all the news that is coming out of Bangladesh, I’d expect the share price to be in a very different place to where it is now before it takes place, I’d also like to think that with the total change of heart in thoughts, with what appears to be by all political parties, including the Interim Government now wanting and expecting Phulbari to be given the green light once a new government has been elected, that there will be institutional interest which may mean that Pi’s are not involved… 🤷‍♂️

Yunus visit to China …

From press reports this will be the most important visit between Bangladesh and China in the last 50 years!

It will be great if we do, but I’m not sure if we will hear news publicly mentioning Open Pit Mining at Phulbari initially, but imo, I’m very sure that it will be discussed, and if not mentioned in the weekend press, other info of discussions will leak out shortly after the event!

Interim Results

Obviously the Interim Results are due any day, and it’s hard not to believe that there will be plenty of positive information discussed, especially about the recent coal seminar where the press said that GCM had provided the information / data on open pit mining at Philbari which was discussed in depth and all at the seminar agreed that Phulbari as well as the country’s other coal deposits (which are not at the advanced stage of Phulbari) should be mined asap

The most important point to materialise from the seminar was that the Interim Government was also in favour of Phulbari now being mined and said that it would put policy’s in place to make it easy for the next new elected government to give the green light to open pit mining 😅
