Surcharge on sale of oil, gas for raising SDF on way

Government is set to impose a new surcharge on the sale of oil, gas, coal, and stone for collecting capital to introduce a new "Social Development Fund (SDF) Policy-2025" run by Petrobangla, the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, or boards of relevant mining companies.

Officials expect the fund to generate substantial annual revenue, a small surcharge of Tk 0.03 per cubic meter could yield around Tk 92 crore annually for research and development initiatives in energy sector

Positioned as part of Petrobangla's corporate social responsibility, the SDF will finance socio-economic development in underprivileged areas around gas fields, coal mines and stone quarries.

Petrobangla are going to be in trouble next by the looks of it and it will be interesting to see how this unfolds, but you can’t just keep borrowing money that you can’t afford to pay back!!

Petrobangla owes a total of BDT 280.16 billion to the National Board of Revenue (NBR), the Finance Division, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC), Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Limited (BCMCL), and Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL). The company has also taken large loans from the GDF to finance LNG imports.

Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin on Thursday said the Election Commission is taking all-out preparations to hold the 13th parliamentary election in February next, ahead of Ramadan.

“Our final preparations are underway to hold the election in February before Ramadan. You all see and know that we are working vigorously for the necessary preparations,” he told reporters at his Nirbachan Bhaban office.

The CEC said the Chief Adviser, now in New York, has been saying that Bangladesh will hold the election in February and the change in power will be made in a democratic manner through a free and historic election. “We are working to implement those words of the Chief Adviser,” he said.
