Interesting point being discussed here...one I have myself considered quite often. It is my contention that Rico Back would most certainly go down the road of 100% redundancies if pushed; this would, in my humble opinion, be his "ace in them hole" so to speak.

After the redundancies have run their course all employees would be immediately invited to reapply for their old jobs...but with one big difference: Seniority ensured by time in service would have nothing at all to do with the selection process.

"Ahhh yes...thirty years as a postie? But poor sickness history, bad disciplinary record, lamentable attendance". "Errr...no thanks. Good bye!"

And thats just how it could very well pan out. But at what cost? My good God!!! I would not like to be the individual who has to guesstimate that one. And whats more you can forget the 5 year plan...you could more than likely forget a ten year one also. Like I have stated so many times before -- Armageddon scenario!!!

Rather harsh, princeofdarkness? How is he supposed to act when Royal Mail openly state on social media that they are not going to honour part of there former 2018 agreement? Was it you in the negotiating room who finally stood up after weeks of intense, exhaustive argument, after having made the deal, and, we must add, being deprived of the family home whilst living out a hotel, and accepted what had been thrashed out with the gesture of a handshake? No wonder he feels betrayed. I would be bl00dy livid myself.

I don't agree with everything the CWU propose...but that has nothing to do with how Terry Pullinger must feel after all the hundreds of hours of hard-grinding work he personally must have put into the fashioning of that so called "agreement".

How would you feel if your employer, 12 months on, informed you that they were not going to give you what they previously promised? Perhaps you might consider it a while?

What really matters here, at this moment in time, is not who is wrong or right, each side has valid points within their separate arguments, but that they now come together...and come together very quickly one has to say -- like next week!!

Yes the posties may well strike. Yes the company may well win. Yes the CWU may well be smashed. Yes there may well be many redundancies. And yes the company may well be completely changed out of all recognition...with or without the union's general consensus.

But if that strike comes, and if its a nationwide, well orchestrated , coordinated strike...then the end result is inevitable:-

RMG's finances will be completely trashed as customers leave in droves...some, perhaps, never to return. This will not be a "Five Year Plan" then, not even with the most optimistic of outlooks, but, rather, a long hard slog to get back to even present levels of profitability.

In other words: no one side wins here. It is now a straight choice: negotiate a deal -- or face mutually assured destruction!!!

If this was the case would that not then be regarded as blatantly profiting by the obvious advantage of having first-hand, insider information, OliGarch? Surely, if so, the regulators would intervene?

How do you know if he made the money he has invested into RMG by his own endeavours, Teslo? And what exactly is it that you know about him? If anything. He is just a faceless poster, as are all of us, that posts on an insignificant little chat board.

And if indeed he did make his own money (and fair play to the man if he did) what has that got to do with all that which I have pointed out about his decision making regarding Royal Mail?

You have touched on something that people on here have never really discussed, scoredagainsteps...or RMG for that matter: transport.
If (read that as when) RMG focus their attention onto the transport side of things the savings would be phenomenal!!!
You could make such massive savings that, compared to the rest of it, it would make all other savings look completely insignificant.
But, in the short to mid term, this will never happen...not for quite a while anyway. Why? Because then this would not just be a major dispute...this really would be a fight to the death. And as for their basic wage? Around about £40 000 a year I believe for the average driver...not forgetting of course one week off every six weeks (plus holidays) on full pay. Nice work if you can get it!!

In processing, where I work, there are posties earning a hell of a lot more than that I can assure you, PostmanPorsche.
Basic wage for them indoors is £26,000 on the night shift when you add all the supplements and allowances.
It is not uncommon for some people to be working 12 hours SA and as much pressure overtime as they can grab...
Some of these posties must be earning a gross wage of £35, 000 plus every year. And the rest!!
And this is commonplace.
