Why is it that the s.p is down where it is? The tooth fairies perhaps? The big, horrible bogey man? The shorters? The coronavirus even? Or perhaps just plain bad luck?

Or perhaps, as many on here had suggested, to their own personal detriment when abused with much vile rudeness and many hoots of derision endorsed and further encouraged by your good self, there was indeed something not quite right with all of it?

Just a punt! And always was.

You have no credibility on here, AJamesW...you never really did in my opinion.

Seems to be, to my way of thinking, that investors have not been deliberately misled here...I would say it is more a case of overly boyish exuberance and a little too much "economy with the truth".

Paul Heywood should step down...he has failed badly in most cases.

As for the rest of it: unless Block score big with either gas or oil (or both!) then there is not much chance of redemption here I am afraid. Too much impending dilution...and not just in the stock.

As far as the deal is concerned, gathering by your collective answers, Schlumberger cannot lose by this arrangement...that explains why they have offloaded something that, according to the law of probability, is probably not going to be worth a great amount in any major way.

I am still holding a small amount of shares...but only because they are not worth selling. Like I always said (and to the cost of much personal abuse from a lot of posters on this board I might add) "a goldmine is just a hole in the ground -- with a liar at the top!!

I think you may well be correct on your £2.00 a share, 200iq...but not perhaps by May. Would'nt be surprised to see it move back up to £1.60 a share in the short-term...before being traded back down of course. Shorters or no shorters.

Not sure if I am correct in stating...but I am sure Royal Mail announced it was going to delay the End-Of-Years figures in May. If so we might have to wait a while longer than normal to find out just how well the company has been doing over the last month or so...as if we don't know anyway -- lol.

Regarding been madly busy: I too can confirm, that, where I work, this week has also been absolutely hectic...in fact on Tuesday night the place came to an almost grinding halt as lorries began queuing up outside the gate and back down the road. Utter bedlam!

Next week could well be even worse!! Every postie knows that the day after the day after any bank holiday is as busy as hell; in other words: following a bank holiday the busiest week day moves from a Tuesday night to a Wednesday night...and is compounded ten fold with a huge buildup of delayed traffic. I can only guess at what it will be like next Wednesday evening. I can only guess because I have a weeks leave booked next week. But I can well imagine what it will be like -- wow!!!

As long as this lockdown in some guise or other exists -- then RMG will continue to make Brewsters -- lots of them!!

I think the comment on twitter just about sums it all up very nicely.

Now then, which one of you gents can elaborate a little more on this Schlumberger deal? I mean, why would any company give up something that could be highly profitable to them? Not sure I fully understand the rationale and logic behind it all; from Sclumberger's point of view that is.

Many thanks, Heallywood. There is a silver lining they say for every dark cloud. I truly believe that this present horrendous calamity that has befallen mankind could actually present an unique opportunity for Royal Mail; that might sound all rather callous...but it is not intended to be. As usual, as it is my nature to do so, I just look at things flat on.

Not only is Royal Mail making pots of money at this dreadful time (disregard those who say that agency staff must be required to replace like-for-like, thus increasing the wage bill. Yes, this is true to some large extent...but not to the degree many would wrongly think) but also it clearly demonstrates that when required both Royal Mail and the CWU can work together in a most efficient ( as far as moving mail in great quantity is concerned) and profitable way.

My way of thinking is this. The present crisis will be ongoing...and ongoing till either this horrible virus disappears (to reappear in the colder months as seasonal flu does) or a vaccine is found. Either way -- some considerable time. An ongoing "on/off" sort of situation. During this period there may well be a complete lockdown (or several) where "everyone," apart from the emergency services, are sat at home. However, in the main, Royal Mail will still be providing a service of varying sorts. The obvious conclusion is this: the longer this crisis continues the greater the likelihood for both compromise and reconciliation...and for all the most obvious reasons I need not go into.

Something good can come out of this for Royal Mail. It is just a question of: what are the true motives of not just Rico Back and the Board... but Dave Ward , Terry Pullinger AND the postal executive also? If they truly want compromise, as grown men, they can find it. However, If both sides have hidden agendas...then the consequences will be catastrophic for everyone whether as employees or shareholders. And yes -- the general public too!

And as for what was left of Royal Mail if the worst should happen? Royal Mail would never be the same again. A gamble? Yes! A straight win or lose in my book.

Unfortunately, unfortunate for us posties that is, you make some very valid points here, Heallywood.

Maggie. When I made my former comments regarding the disgraceful figure of 26,000 I was not directing it towards the genuine, hard working employees (such as yourself) that are the very backbone of RMG. People like you, should, as I formerly stated in so many words, be held up as shining examples to the ones who have taken this opportunity to fraudulently avail themselves of a free holiday at the company's expense. Like I said -- disgraceful!!

Well, it might just be that RMG are attempting to "not" let them get away with it.

Last night when I got into work I was told in confidence that the plant manager had sat down with one of the union reps off one particular shift and had then begun calling, one by one, all the missing people on that particular shift who had gone over the 14 day isolation period...I believe they also made inquiries as to how other people were progressing who had been off work for perhaps only a week or so. What questions were being asked I do not know; but there is a prevailing feeling that some people might just be starting to feel all rather uncomfortable right now at this very moment. Good -- they deserve too!!

Quite right, IsleworthSpy! Like I just mentioned...take the vast majority of the ****-taking 26,000 out of it -- and you are left with a very big portion of decent, hardworking people who take a real pride in their job!! These are the people the management should acknowledge and hold up to the workshy rest as examples of what the company should expect of someone worthy enough to wear the Royal Mail's uniform. But, sadly - no!

They will only be concerned when fawning over the "poor" people at home.

The vast majority of those people are letting a lot of people down.

Like for example. The general public, their work mates, their employer...and, most importantly -- the posties who have lost their lives in the line of duty!! Add to this the distress of their loved ones at the loss of their partner and soulmate, and all the posties who are genuinely sick or who really are looking after their own sick loved ones.

Yes! To you who are sat at home this very minute and laughing at the company and your fellow work mates I say this: shame on you all!!!

And shame on you Royal Mail if you let them get away with it.

Teslo, I think it is fair to say that RMG most certainly "is" a very badly run company. If you was only truly aware of the real problems facing Royal Mail concerning sickness absence, indifference to work and the downright lazy and shiftless you would be truly appalled. And further appalled at how little the management can do about it!!

No -- it most certainly does not!!

The reason the mail is getting shifted through with very few extra agency present on the floor (quite correct OliGarch) is because of some truly heroic efforts by some truly gallant and hardworking individuals who are endowed with both integrity and a strong work ethic...very luckily for RMG I have to say. Without the efforts of these particular people RMG would, right now, be in serious trouble. 26,000 of its employees self-isolating or looking after loved ones -- what a disgrace!!

Like a manager said to me last night: "and how many of those people do you think are truly genuine, mate"?

I will give you all the same answer I gave him: "errrr...hmm".

Enjoyed both differing points of view here, gentlemen. You both make valid points.

As for speculating? I do not consider what I witness every day of any normal working week is pure speculation. It is not the core part of the business model that is the problem here...but all the inherent issues that have always existed between a highly suspicious and sceptical CWU (and rightly so in many cases) and a newly ensconced CEO who is hell bent on carving up the business.

It will be extremely difficult of course, and in the very worst scenario could see RMG falling irretrievably apart never to regain its former market share again (what I refer to as MAD: mass assured destruction...showing my age here I suspect) but I am banking on one thing (and yes it is a gamble) that being that common sense eventually prevails and the two sides, union and employer, can come together and thrash out a good solid deal from which to build upon.

If they do...then the sky is the limit as far as a viable business is concerned.

In the main, being a postie myself, I have to agree with OliGarch...although I do willingly concede, teslo, you have raised legitimate reservations and concerns regarding RMG's future financial prospects and profitability.

Investing in shares is no different to gambling...I am gambling the business I work for will eventually get its act together. If it does, then like I formerly mentioned...£1.37 will just be a long distant memory.

It is a great pity that the general public don't get to see, with their own eyes, what actually happens regarding the processing of the mail by people like myself. All Joe Public knows of Royal Mail is posties, mail vans, little red postboxes and post offices...all very low key it has to be said. If they could witness the "network" first hand they would then realise what they see in their everyday lives, is, in fact -- just the tip of a gigantic iceberg!

And if you could see the volumes of 1st class and 2nd class tracked parcels flooding the system at present you really would be amazed!!

Nobody, and I mean nobody anywhere, shifts mail in bulk like RMG. This company is a sleeping giant! It will take a couple of years...but when the much publicized problems are sorted out between employer and employee, when the parcel hubs have been firmly established and a new network put in place...then this business will really start to take off.

A good investment for the future? I would say - YES! But a lot of turbulent water to pass under the old shaky bridge yet I would also have to add. I guess it just comes down to that old saying: no gain without the pain!

In a couple of very short years from now £1.37 pence will be a very far back and distant memory.

So, after all the abuse I took on this particular board all those long months ago for daring to suggest that things might not quite be as rosy as certain rampers on here were claiming them to be...it has now come down to this. So much for the Chief Ramper Mr AWJames (or something like); and where is the much vaunted "Oilman Jim" in all this? His name was wielded around, by the belligerent ramping crew of course, like the shining sword of truth and righteousness.

Like you just commented, OliGarch..."it's been like Christmas this week".

I work nights. Never seen so much Belfast and Scottish mail getting pushed through the network at this time of year...not for a considerable time that is. Even the "old-stagers" say that it is the busiest Easter going back for quite a while.

I really can understand why RMG, from a financial point of view that is, do not want to prioritize mail as the CWU have suggested.

The amount of weight training equipment, garden furniture, microwaves, mini ovens, amazon "pantry" parcels (hell of a weight!) and many, many others things all being shoved through the network is truly staggering!!

Most of the Yorks, sleeved or other wise, are all bulging full of mail.

Personally, I don't think this sort of service, at these volumes, will last very much longer. If this crisis gets any worse the country may well be looking at a total lock down; the weekend deaths figures will give us all a good idea if this is likely to happen or not. The very best, I should think, that the consumer can expect in the very near is just that: a total lock down or something very close to it. My advice is: if you wish to purchase what may well be considered "low priority mail"...then do it now - today! You might not get another chance after the forthcoming weekend is over.

You are quite correct, GenerationZKid, when you make the comments: "On the plus side, Packets must be through the roof and RMG must be raking in revenue at this moment in time".

The next quarterly figures will show a big increase (Easter period apart that is) in numbers ...the obvious result being, in the short term at the very least, an appreciable rise in the s.p; whether, under the present industrial relations conditions, this inevitable rise in the s.p can be maintained is debatable...we are all too aware of the difficult headwinds present in any progressive negotiations between RMG and the CWU.

There is of course always a silver-lining to any dark cloud: at the end of this dreadful crisis it will clearly demonstrate to share holders and public alike that nobody can move mail in volume like RMG.

Something good "can" come out of all this as far as Royal Mail is concerned. In fact, it might just be the much needed "glue" that holds RMG and its employees together; thus allowing for compromise and reconciliation. Lets us all hope so!!

1. Take this as gospel: a huge reduction in "junk mail" from this very moment - like now! If not completely over the coming few days.

2. Regarding the final dividend: no surprises here...that money will be put to use when completing the forthcoming agreement with the CWU. Lets face it...after this is all over, RMG will have no other choice; if they don't then that s.p won't be worth ****!

It was not £5.00 a share...but in fact £5.50 a share.

Had mine over two weeks ago. The poor s@d stood in front of us all nervously fidgeting whilst we filed into the room in stony silence; then, visibly trembling, read out a statement, in a quavering voice it has to be noted, that had been prepared for him beforehand. There was absolutely nothing in that statement that we had not all heard at least several times before. I actually had some sympathy for the chap. Having met and talked to him several times over the last ten years or so I can honestly say he is a very decent man. I am quite convinced he would have been really quite appalled at the prospect of visiting the entire area to read out what he had been requested to so do. Talk about being put on the spot!
