There is an awful lot of hopeful assumption and perverted logic being displayed on this board. And based on what?

The only thing that really matters here is whether Block can discover enough oil or gas, or both...and will the Georgians play with a straight bat. Because if the answer to all that is no...then these shares are not worth bog roll.

And under present circumstances bog roll, at this very moment in time, right now -- is worth considerably more!!

First thing I did when I got up was to check the short tracker...not surprised at how high it is under present circumstances.

An interesting one this...and for all the obvious reasons. Just as Fruitster has commented earlier, this does now present an unique opportunity for Royal Mail to rake in some serious revenue.

I can honestly say that, where I work, almost every night is like Christmas -- the amount of parcels is just unbelievable! In fact...it is busier than Christmas. Overall -- a lot busier!

However, that aside, it still does not change RMG's many problems; all of which seem to have been somewhat forgotten at present...understandable.

One cannot put aside the very real prospect of the threat of a strike; also one has to remember Royal Mail is still a long, long way away from completing the new "parcel hub network"...and all at the great cost that this thus entails. There will be the pay rise to sort out; and, of course, the demands of the CWU...which are not going to be forgotten. Well...not by the CWU.

Ironically, under this new development (the possible extension of the social distancing for at least 12 months) this actually now strengthens the CWU's bargaining power.

Royal Mail are making so much money (and don't the CWU know it!) that they will be desperate for this great flow of revenue to continue uninterrupted -- who would'nt!!

Yes, interesting times indeed...very, very interesting.

The s.p fair value at present? Perhaps even up to £1.60 - £1.70 in the next week or so?

Who knows? Like I just mentioned...very, very interesting times ahead I think.

I myself have not bought any RMG stock for a month or two (apart from those bought for me through Royal Mail's partnership scheme) for that most obvious one thing, alaninvestor...would rather pay more on the strength of some irrefutable and highly encouraging news (especially concerning an agreement with the CWU) than watch as the very real threat of a huge and crippling strike sinks the s.p into the dark abyss.

However good the next quarterly figures might well be, and will be even better the longer this crisis continues, the unresolved, much documented problems between employer and employee here are still very much dragging on this stock.

And whats more -- those who short know it!

I will take a little bit of brashness and rudeness over incompetence and hypocrisy any day of the week.

I would much rather have a strong leader with clearly defined ideas of a nations separate identity and the direction they want that nation to go in than have a raving leftie who believes they can be "all things to all men"...despite where those men come from; and most of them from war ravaged countries that they have murderously hacked apart over the last decade or so. Yes, a strong leader for me -- not some tree hugging, socialist buffoon who at every opportunity shook the hand of every terrorist he could possibly contrive to meet from Northern Ireland to Libya -- what a w.nk.r!!

So I say -- thank God for bumbling Boris! At least one cannot deny he is intelligent, articulate, erudite, and highly engaging in a very likeable, big schoolboy sort of hale and hearty manner; in all fairness it can honestly be said...he is hardly your archetypal Tory. Far from being a stuffed shirt -- detached, distant and aloof, he is most certainly a man of the people who can converse on all levels:-

Received my letter yesterday from our redoubtable leader thanking me, personally, for all my sterling efforts...thanks, Rico.

Of particular interest I note his comment regarding the increase in traffic concerning our pharmacy customers: "We are delivering for the NHS. Delivering and returning coronavirus testing kits for NHS workers across the UK (don't I know it...we are handling them in our place - gulp!!). We've delivered more prescriptions to peoples homes (yes, yes...I see it every night) -
a 400% increase for one pharmacy customer!"

That last bits interesting...it will be to do with the Boots contract we have. It comes through every early morning (2nd class tracked)...and yes, I too have noticed a huge increase (you cannot really miss it!) in the volumes sent by this one particular customer.

The question is: when we go back to some sort of normality, will those extra persons now having their Boots medication delivered by Royal mail then carry on having it delivered in this way? By us that is.

Let us hope so -- a nice little earner if they do!

Like others have said (in so many words) : if you are a former professional financier/trader/investor/fund manager (or whatever it is you purport/claim to have been) why have you:-

1. Put all your eggs into this one basket? (or a whopping big chunk of them)
2. Repeatedly caught the falling knife?
3. Been consistently wrong about "fair value"?

And, most importantly, let us not forget: now sat on a massive loss that might have been invested elsewhere giving him a very considerable return.

And before some of you might accuse me of taking advantage of hindsight: I was making these exact same comments months ago regarding this exact same individual.

I do not think Fruitster is a fraudster...I just think he is arrogant in the extreme and thinks he knows better than anyone else.

And that includes the markets and all the posties!!

As for myself: yes, I still hold here....but only because it is not worth selling the small holding that I still have left.

Putting all that to one side though...there is much that is wrong here.

I can accept that the crash of crude in the world's markets has had a big impact on Block's s.p...but not to the extent of what has actually happened.

Too much extravagant boyish bravado and not enough caution and solid fact (plus a big dollop of bad luck) has been the unmaking of this little outfit.

The CEO needs to learn, and learn quickly, from this compounded fiasco, and then grow up and mature a bit...well quite a lot really.

He would be better advised that it might be more prudent to cultivate a certain amount of reserved-deliberation and stop looking at things through those rose-coloured spectacles of his.

Better a man with a realistic outlook based upon hard, cold facts than one who convinces himself that the law of averages means eventually he is certain one day to get it right.

I am in total concord with these comments. I have said so myself, in so many words, several times before, here, on this board, the very same things.

"Pre privatisation Royal Mail was not a proper commercial enterprise it was more like a branch of the Social Services dominated by politics the main aim being to provide employment not to make profits. The unions had the whip hand because the top management were controlled by Westminster where I.A. could not be tolerated for political reasons".

This is the biggest single failing of most investors, whether on this board or in the big, bad City, that they have made regarding Royal Mail.

Okay, Mad, as you are obviously trying to put me on the spot here is my answer: everything!

Now let us reverse roles and I will put you under the same spotlight and ask you the same sort of question: why did the CWU undertake two ballots for strike action?

Ambivalence: the state of having mixed feelings or contradictory ideas about something or someone.

Now, surely, you are not going to try and persuade me that the union does not view everything senior executives say or do without some hint of initial suspicion are you?

It is a constant source of surprise to me to repeatedly be reminded of just how little importance is attached, by people on this board that is, to the impact of that very real possibility of a huge and crippling strike, sometime in the near future, having on the present s.p.

It is almost as if most contributors on here have forgotten, never really took on board or just discounted the prospect altogether.

The reason the s.p dropped in the first place was the cost involved in bringing Royal Mail into the 21st century.

Then compounded by the profit warnings.

Then the final nail: the unions complete ambivalence to change -- followed by downright rejection, another ballot...and then the absolute certainty, failing any settlement of course, of that proposed strike taking place.

And when this coronavirus is subdued to acceptable levels and things return to a "new" normality? Then the spectre of that strike will manifest once more.

And if negotiations break down? Then we are straight back to square one -- £1.18 per share!

Or considerably less even.

After looking at Crimsons chart yesterday I decided to chuck a hundred quid at it just to see what price I would get quoted; computer responded by saying "unable to complete order at the time"... therefore it had to be entered as a "negotiated order": just struck me as rather strange.

However, putting all that to one side...this little outfit is still an attractive little prospect in my opinion.
