After all, this is the very essence of what he is truly all about...a small motif positioned in one corner of the aforementioned certificate displaying a braying donkey, head flung back, lips peeled and enormous teeth protruding whilst uttering a loud braying Eeyore, Eeyore, Eeyore, might also add a little extra flavour. 1. I do not wish to see a strike...even less -- take part in one!
2. I was not forced to join the CWU; I initially joined of my own volition...in the second case I was invited.
3. What is the point of joining any union if you are not prepared to back it?
4. What is the point of having leadership within an organization if you decide to disregard that leadership and abide by your own, self-motivated decisions? Does an army work that way? And could it perform its intended function if it did?
5. No one is right all the time...and that includes Rico Back as well as Terry Pullinger.
6. How does any democracy work in a vote? Why of course -- by the majority! (whether it be proportional representation or otherwise)
7. If people do not wish to strike or vehemently disagree with their union then just resign. Simple!
8. Did I vote YES for strike action? Yes I did.
9. Why? Because the more people that vote for strike action the more likely it is that talks in real earnest between the two opposing sides are likely to begin.

And there you have it, wolves; although I confess I do wonder why I should have to explain that to anyone? Least of all an employee of Royal Mail.

And as for a big majority? What do you call a big majority? If out of 140,000 votes (whether some papers are spoilt, unreturned or people just vote NO) 80.000 people vote for industrial action would you not call that a big majority? Because if that was a Labor ward and the local populace voted 80,000 for Mr Potatoe Head and 60,000 for the incumbent Tory...then most political commentators would regard that as a landslide victory. Cheers!!

And also benefit from the extremely generous sick pay (whether you have used it or not) that is available should you be taken badly ill or suffer a mishap? And not forgetting all the other added benefits that come via "My Bundle", or, "My Drive" (lease car hire with free road tax, insurance, MOT, servicing, tyres, window glass replacement, repairs, etc, etc)....let us also mention the added benefits of being a CWU member: free legal advice for you or family members, cheap house and car insurance, and many, many others things. Just listened to Pullinger on the CWU Facebook page...the man has made a powerful argument in favour of industrial action and backed it up with lots of persuasive points, facts and "what-ifs". The outcome of this ballot is a foregone conclusion -- a massive "YES" vote! A strike is now 100% inevitable.

But perhaps this is exactly what Herr Back wants? Indeed one does wonder.........?

very well summarized! This is not a case of right or wrong...it is just a case of how the majority perceive it to be. And the majority are the CWU membership.

You cannot detach RMG from the CWU: they are Yin and Yang -- opposing forces that are intrinsic to the whole -- opposite sides of the same coin -- differing ideologies that march under the same banner.

Anyone who does not understand this should not have invested here.

Oligarch says "4 to 5 years before your investment bears decent fruit"...I myself say, it could be significantly longer.

Whether some people on here like it or not Rico Back is going to have to eat a good portion of cold crow very soon. RMG won't keep winning High Court injunctions...even if they win one again this time. Eventually there will be a strike...unless this is all resolved amicably of course.

As for the strike itself? I shudder at the thought! Unless you have worked in Royal Mail you could not possibly understand the consequences of a national 5 day strike...nor would you understand the effects regarding the clogged up "Network", nor the great cost of hiring agency workers to try and cover the missing posties; that is if you could find enough agency workers to cover all those duties...which I doubt.

What people on here, in the main, only see and think about is the posties on the beat. What they do not see...and therefore cannot appreciate (quite naturally I concede) is how that mail gets into the posties delivery bags in the first place. And herein lies the biggest problem for Royal Mail.

Without going into it in great detail (because, frankly, I just cannot be bothered) it would be a complete disaster! Who would drive the York Movers? Who would set up and monitor all the scanning equipment? Who would operate all the dock-leveling? Who would drop and raise all the trailer decks? Who would marshal the yards? Who would operate the forklifts? The York pushers used for collecting thousands of nested Yorks? Who would operate the scuds?

The managers would do all this perhaps? My answer: even in a small cross-docking operation with just 20 bays and as many as three managers they would be faced with an absolute impossibility! And what about managing the floor whilst they are attempting to do all this? Forget it...its a none starter.

And as for agency drivers? Oh my goodness -- the floor would be a disaster zone! They always need tightly regulating due to the fact they are always in a rush. They come in with the attitude of: I can do as I please here. Given free reign I can only guess at the amount of injuries and the resulting personal claims.

Oh, and as for agency operating all the aforementioned equipment? No chance! You need a licence or training. And the CWU WILL be watching. The fact is, where I work anyway, most managers have neither training nor a licence.

And in 4 or 5 years time? Well the CWU will still be here...but one does, does one not, have to wonder whether the same can be

Whoever has been giving this man counsel has made a very poor job of it.

There must be plenty of senior managers that are still working at Royal Mail after many years of service who, in the privacy of their own shut-in thoughts, shake their heads wearily at the sheer folly of it all.

They would have been aware right from the very start of Rico Back's tenure just how this was all going to end up.

Rico Back has demonstrated a staggering belligerence towards 110.000 employees...and a complete misunderstanding about everything that constitutes the mind set and sentiments of the highly suspicious and cautious CWU.
