there is a fair possibility that TS have their licence suspended. reason : local opposition. the wind turbines have been suspended in Nov by Gov due to protests. There is equally strong opposition to the sand mining at mannar. If TS dont get the go ahead then apart from Lanka Min. there is only CMET as a player in producing badly needed revenue and jobs from sand mining for the Gov.

On the other hand if TS gets Lic approval then it augers very well for CMET. It shows despite protests that the gov are really determined to get Mining going and as CMET have engaged positively socially and have good relations on the ground with locals there is little opposition to holding the project back.

I must have missed it but I dont recall reading or hearing much about the intermediate development scenario of producing 2.5 to 3.5 million tonnes per annum of DR, utilising existing rail infrastructure and third-party port facilities. so this scenario seems to be kicked into touch, and its just azteca until such time as the rail and port are ready to switch to full production.

Jim- If Tucano were to get started at the same time as Amapa it will put a lot of pressure immediately on the single road to port. bearing in mind that Amapa gets 1500mm of rain per annum. sorting the rail is critical if they want to get Amapa into phase 2. hence this visit helps.
