USA markets doing rather well today, lots of US economic data showing the strength which I believed it would have. Should spillover onto the FTSE tomorrow and could lift CPI a little too

Yes, no results news for a while yet but... there was talk of selling off BT Ireland by AK, could there be news which emerges about that? Also with short sellers still bitterly holding, no doubt at great cost, surely one or several of them will soon come to realise it's best to crystallise those painful losses than it is to hold out and suffer even greater ones? Since, it's far more likely we'll witness BT being v.resilient & rising over steadily these next 6months.

I reckon more likely down to some trimming to reduce exposure or to profit taking... Definitely possible this stock will spend a fair bit of time in the £1.42.50-£1.52.50 range as sellers and buyers battle it out over the end direction.

GoCPI - Great, it appears you agree then that central banks cut rates to provide support to economies running out of steam and that if they did not cut rates then a recession/depression would be the result... i.e. contraction/deflation...

What Labour has inherited then is UK economy which is running out of steam, and therefore it's going to require central bank support to maintain the 2% inflation target 👍

The risk being CPI finds its order books dry up as a results of a demand shortfall in the coming months/year ahead.

Under Gordon Brown interest rates were never 16.5% so that's grade A utter baloney.

Gordon Brown did not 'destroy pensions' he just took away a tax break which many had become accustomed too and because of people living longer (another Labour success, note: the recent Tories delivered the first reduction in life expectancy in the modern era) it was therefore a tax break which was no longer affordable.

As for the recent winter fuel payments well many in receipt of it are very wealthy and not in need of it. The poorest are still going to get it because Labour will probably improve the bar when they deliver the Oct 30th Budget to ensure more of the poorest can claim it.

As for CPI... not doing great on the SP today...

Correct me if you think I am wrong but... isn't it usually the case that central banks cut rates in order to provide support to and economy which would otherwise be contracting/deflating if they did not come to their aid?

The proof has been in the results... Tories had 14yrs, they failed monumentally and paid the price with a massive election defeat. You lot can keep on voting Tory but you'll keep on losing because the Tory party is currently able to offer no viable solutions which can practically improve peoples lives.

It's so interesting that CPI has done terribly under the Tory Government and yet many on here still shill for the Tories even when sitting on massive personal financial losses! Incredible stuff!

I agree with your analysis - it's the underlying basis for why I tipped BT as being a prime candidate for highest

performing FTSE stocks for 2024 FY... with ongoing global turbulence I think many investors will perceive BT as being a very safe household stock to put their members money into. Even more so with the Divi uplift AK announced - there's surely another divi uplift for the interim?

If Iran/Lebanon were to suddenly see tensions escalate then turbulence could return to the markets... US data on macro situation is looking significantly brighter though and that might help limit the extent of such turbulence.

Difficult one to call on the 'profit take & exploit the drop to buy back in... some could find they get shutout by buyers who have saved back cash anticipating some doing precisely that ;-)

Daltry - except the Tory lies were so blatant... 40x new hospitals, 50,000 more nurses (although they had cut the numbers so severely prior that it meant there would be no new nurses whatsoever), £350million for the NHS, claims of world beating standards, 20,000 more police offices (except they had prior cut 20,000 too)... also severe cuts to the armed forces - leaving the nation very vulnerable.

But no cuts for them... MP salaries up, swathes of dodgy contracts handed out and peerages to Tory chums, payouts to Michelle Mone & Dido harding...

Meanwhile schools fell into disrepair, trains abysmal, roads full of potholes +ambulance/NHS care for many of you oldies on here has become so poor that it's dangerous to seek treatment (and will no doubt send some of you to your graves a bit earlier too).

Not to mentions taxes the highest since the late 1940's... oh and when a Government feels the need to appoint a 'common sense minister' then simultaneously it demonstrates that Government has no sense in common!

Look I get many of you are scared of a few 'foreigners' as you think they're going to take over the country but... the days of the British Empire and white men running everything are well and truly over as the world and this country has long moved on.

Luckily Labour are going to restore decency and standards in politics & the economy... yes, it'll take some time but there's no looking back now...

PJT12 - 14yrs of Tory chaos and you still turned out to shill for them, after all the damage they've done to the nation! CPI and many other businesses have had to operate in a country where the standards kept on falling over those years. It's no wonder many share prices are so low and also you backed the Tories raising taxes budget after budget through those years! Well... thankfully we now have a decent centrist Labour's Government in power and the nation can begin to heal and repair the damage.

All FTSE stocks are traded globally, anyone across the globe is able trade them and so saying words to the effect of 'I don't like it when foreigners meddle in a stock' is xenophobic because the context was an Indian billionaire buying a 24.5% stake of BT.

Anyways... as for CPI it'll be interesting to see what happens tomorrow, now that it has closed above 18p

Well do you ever take a minute to pause and think about your rather xenophobic and derogatory language? After all, many of the 'foreigners' you speak of are simply global investors who are a little like you in terms of dabbling in shares except for one thing... since many of them have far deeper pockets than you have... 🤔 💭

I did say BT would be one of the top performing shares this FY, there's still a way yet to run but the pace of the upward rise does feel as though it had picked up. Yes, Bharti buying Drahi out is superb news and I think BT is now attracting widespread interest at last.
