Fleccy - Yes, US markets enjoyed bumper trading on the back of the 0.5% Fed trim. However, the FTSE has not been so fortunate, and that sort of proves my point really... that a rate hold by BoE is not helpful to UK equities. Hence why I moved to commence selling early Tuesday morning and by 16.25-16.29 yesterday I'd completed the selling off for ~80% of my BT stocks.

Aim - Wholly aware of the Morgan Stanley RNS - It's not a surprise to me at all and I achieved a good price for the sales of my BT holdings too👍 - what you're sharing is not any new news, I've already shared news of my selling move on here.

Daltry - the rights wing debate over degrees of wokeness has become an obsession which has possessed those who subscribe to it...

Modern workplaces require mixed intelligences on a diverse range of skillsets: communication, problem solving, creativity, empathy, leadership, writing, presentation, project management... No longer is it necessary for employees to simply pass a memory test to be deemed good enough for a role... which was how so called merit was assessed back in your days.

People are now broadly hired on their merit which is why diversity has significantly improved. How about you go apply for a job and try out the process?... Fleccy, it's the case that higher rates + slower growth always hurts equities. The rates hold will hurt all household and businesses as it boosts those holding cash and bonds but yet hoarding cash and bonds does not help boost economic activity. All stocks will feel the pain, asset prices will become eroded too (as high rates drag on demand).

Flawed boomer logic be like:

Completely ignoring/overlooking absolutely everything about the wider global context which has radically changed since those bygone days...

Today the political + economic landscape is so vastly different that it's not possible to apply comparisons.

The simple reason we're all getting poorer now at a faster rate though is Brexit has helped Russia and has undermined the West...

The EU was created to ensure the European powers could properly compete with USA, China, Russia, India, and Asian tiger economies... however today it's just little Britain outside of that protective union and that's why UK is now more exposed than it has been...

Farage talks a load of nonsense, he sells the dream to the many boomers of restoring those bygone times of glory but... the world has radically changed and its far better to be a member of a much bigger union because that's the best route to having greater global influence else the rest of the world powers will just laugh at little Britain, small and all alone!

For transparency purposes; in total I've ended up unloading ~80% of my BT holdings. Each time SP rallied over past few days I offloaded additional tranches, taking the view BoE would make the wrong play, by stubbornly trying to fight the $ + strong USA economy but also yet again being behind the curve... thanks to their forecasting inabilities! I didn't sell all in one go as I wanted to watch the narrative play out following the BoE decision but it just reinforced my view and did not give me reasons to hold or buy back in...

Sadly I think it could take more weeks yet for the full gravity of BoE's poor decision to sink in... they downgraded growth, downgraded inflation and yet still opted for the rates hold. It's a futile attempt to boost £ sterling based on logic which would have worked in a bygone era.

I'm still holding some BT stock as I am still net positive on BT, I just think the journey to higher SP's will now take more time with opportunities to buy back in at lower SP's than today's prices.

Trisor - the consequences being felt are those of 14yrs of Tory ineptitude... Labour have only been in office a matter of a few weeks and fortunately they'll be in power for the next 15-20yrs ahead too.

Precisely correct AimMaster2018 - High rates punish those who are indebted, or are seeking to take out finance. I've never disputed that and yep, it'll be interesting to see which utilities have faced the brunt of those 12% DD defaults.

As for telecoms, they're pretty essential services for all businesses and individuals and there's only so many high quality networks to choose from, of which BT makes up 32% of the total market.

Bailey is going to see to it that UK has a punishing winter, atop rising bills + rising taxes incoming... All thanks to the Tories failed 14yrs in power.

UK is exposed to permanently elevated inflation, due to additional trade barriers + costs associated with being outside of the EU Single Market. And what is the medicine for this higher inflation??

So Bailey + BoE committee have today downgraded forward looking growth, downgraded forward looking inflation and yet still they've opted to hold rates... Bailey should resign as yet again he'll ensure UK is behind the curve and I can't see how this helps CPI whatsoever!😬😬😬
