Fleccy - there's many ways to make money on stock market, different strategy approaches can still yield success. FWIW I don't doubt the merits of your approach, it is just different that is all.

They're more akin to a partner dance 🕺 really... fundamentals being one partner and narrative being the other. Sometimes one takes the lead, sometimes the follow. When one falls & breaks a leg 🦵 the dance comes to an abrupt end (aka the company goes busy!)

Neither is always in eternal control though.

BTW... One business I feel is going to get annihilated by this broad based correction because I think it's next set of results will be absolutely shockingly bad is Capita (CPI).

I think these BT results today are a bit of a bellwether indicator for how I see many UK stocks and results coming in over the months ahead... sales falling shot, finance Costs upwards and firms struggling to grapple with debt volumes (those that did not use the bumper revenues in the better times to pay down their debt mountains)...

Ultimately I think the trend will be the root cause of a broad based FTSE correction which I already talked about on here.

Fleccy - I understand you may feel the SP is still undervalued but IMO the results speak for themselves and I think the market is reacting correctly to those with a big drop for the SP

Velo I take your point but all the forward look suggests that net profit figure is set to be the exception and nit the norm ahead... also it's a bit of an illusion because they gained net profit but also net debts and greater volume of net debts than there were net profits.

Also to point out... net profit coming in slightly better than anticipated is offset because net debts have grown faster than anticipated. Forward look for takeup is slower too. Yes, peak capex is in the past but BT has a big fight on its hands to improve the forward look and that's why I think AK got ahead of the results by briefing the press on potential sell offs of BT component parts of the business.

The challenge will be finding buyers for those assets, getting a good price (at a time many will smell blood and BT's somewhat desperation to sell)... also after the sales the BT business will become a smaller outfit thereby leaving shareholders with many shares in their hands for a business which is net smaller in size.

ArK87 - BT is a very very different business to Rolls Royce... I do not currently see BT doing a Rolls Royce but it has performed pretty much as I had foretold I.e. poorly and more poorly than had been anticipated at the last results prior to today's.

Longtimeinvestor - you don't appear to understand/comprehend the legal text and that's surprising given you even explained in your prose why an asylum seeker cannot apply for a visa (because there is no such thing as an asylum visa you said, which is correct).

So you're aware that therefore there is still today, according to UK law, no such thing as an illegal asylum seeker. An individual can come to the UK without a passport and they can claim asylum perfectly legally and none of the laws prevent this whatsoever 👍

British Government will never block asylum seekers from seeking asylum in the UK because some people doing this will be future intelligence assets for UK intelligence services (i.e. persons of interest fleeing a foreign Government and seeking protection of HM Government)

I think this is significant because we all know there are fewer new home builds right now and that's clearly a trend hitting BT hard. Yes, new Gov has said it wants to supporrt build of more new homes but there's a lag before such policy will kick in a supportive way for BT and there is some way to go to get there yet.

Longtimeinvestor- just to point out super clearly... the line you quoted nicely demonstrates how the Tories very deliberately left legal holes to continue allowing migration and asylum seekers to enter the UK. That's because the line you stated:

'Going against' is not the same as 'breaking the law'. An asylum seeker would not be breaking that law (the nationality and borders act) due to the way it is worded. I.e. getting the law passed allowed the Tories to get press out there on how they were going to be tough but the reality is they passed a law with no bite as it has more holes than a colander!

However, there are:

1. Asylum seekers - Seeking asylum is a human right. 1951 Refugee Convention protects people fleeing persecution, it guarantees the right to apply for asylum in any country that has signed it. In the UK, you must be physically in the UK to apply for asylum.

2. Immigrants - An immigrant (or migrant) is someone who has left their home country and settled in a new country, with the intention of living there permanently.

In Uk there are asylum laws, and there are also separate immigration laws; there are also laws which partially cover both too.

Hi bro-ken-broker - I don't short because I just don't have enough trading experience yet. But yep I would not recommend Capita, when their next results land they're going to be goulish IMO... they even said so, buried in the detail of their last results, they predicted a single digit mid range percentage drop in their revenues... their words seemingly their own admission of inevitable situation at the nest results.
