However, it is simply not true that the Tories have made entering the country an illegal act. They have only made it an illegal act if done in a very limited set of circumstances.

Asylum seekers can come to the country and make an asylum application - doing such is not illegal.

It doesn't really matter ones view on immigration/asylum seeking - This is just about the matter of law which can either apply or not apply.

Longtimeinvestor - Perhaps it is the case that through this discussion you might now understand how the Tories very deliberately and knowingly allowed both migrants and asylum seekers (because these two are different) to keep on arriving.

Also the vast majority of people who have been coming to the UK (~600,000-700,000 people per year under the Tories since brexit) have simply been flying into the country and waved in with the visa's they have had accepted.

It is only about 20,000-40,000 people per annum who have been landing in the UK via small boats. I am sure even a fellow like yourself is able to understand that 20-40k is far lower than the 600-700k.

However, an asylum seeker cannot be a visa holder because as you rightly pointed out 'there is no such thing as an asylum visa'. You were correct on this matter.

So let me explain: section 40 of the Nationality and Borders Act 2022 says it applies to almost all asylum seekers entering the UK. However, in fact it does not apply any legally enforceable restrictions to asylum seekers whatsoever.

So it then becomes somewhat clear: When a law does not apply then of course no one can be prosecuted and handed a sentence (because the law did not apply to them). It's very simple. Perhaps too complex for you though?

Useless Andrew Bailey holding the BoE press conference... MPC forecasts have a track record of having been way way off the mark. It will not be different this time either!

Seems they're basically briefing they want to hold rates for a while at this new 4.75% level, to purge & keep a lid on inflation. Except inflation looks far more likely to continue falling short, even with inflationary budget measures announced and Bailey is now just failing to give sufficient bank support for businesses + consumers; meaning growth, revenues and profits are all just far more likely to fall short of expectations and it'll continue negatively impacting on UK equities - £ is being held artificially high too. All IMO.

Bank has chosen the route of more pain for business + households. They should have already made a bigger cut and have not cut enough today.

Hiya Trenners, well... since you ask I sold my entire holdings of BT a couple of weeks ago when it hit the recent highs and I did so for massive profits 🏆 as I correctly foresaw that today's results would be terrible.

I did share my views with others on this site, for transparency and I shared that I'd sold up too... Since this mornings results RNS it's so far dropped ~7% and the results behaved very similarly to my forecast too!

Wowsers this could result in fines for any parties involved in the transaction...

My, my I had CPI down as a total dog of share which should be shorted until it's put down but this really has excelled my expectations on just how terrible and rotten the business is!

Sometimes even a successful business can experience a savage broadsiding by major macroeconomic fallout... The UK economy is sick, and IMO EZJ will not escape unscathed. It may not look so right this moment for some ppl but... IMV the storm clouds are gathering over the FTSE indices... We've already seen the FTSE100 recently trim from ~8400 down to between ~8100-8200 but I think there's much more on the way. ~7560 is the approx. destination for the FTSE100 but I don't rule out it passing that to head a little lower. EZJ most likely to fall by £1 or so from current SP.

Investors will need to see a heavy discount offered on the SP to be motivated to go long IMO - That's because UK macroeconomic outlook is not just poor, it is bad (I say this even though I back Labour turning the page on Tory chaos, recover will be a long and difficult road ahead).

If AK is going to bet the house on a UK recovery then IMV investors will want very large discount. For me personally BT does not become a good option until it heads at least below 120p...

That's my view - what is yours?

Blanchflower - oh absolutely buying customers should be able to bag great deals right now, due to rapidly falling consumer demand.

Gary59 - just to elaborate... I think serious investors will need to see a hefty price discount here for them to view buying some BT as a good investment move

Super wise move in my view. Statistical probability wise I think your decision will prove to be the right one but acknowledging it's not impossible for it to go the other way.

Mylovelyhorse - Yup, was obvious to me that would be AK's narrative and whilst some may view that positively, others not so.

For me personally I view it as bad because UK continues to experience major macroeconomic turbulence, a shortfall in competitiveness and shortfall in growth too. AK is pinning her hopes and strategy on UK turning around, whereas I believe there will be stagnation and her strategy is unlikely to work.

BT's results today reveal weakness in the UK property sector.

Totes agree there... However, those altnets when they do inevitably fold will do so owing a lot to BT (via payments on invoice). Yes BT will become the natural supplier of last resort but it will not escape the crunch on it's finances which is blatantly the reason why AK has been busy expending effort/energy/her political capital on prepping folks for asset fire sales, i.e. getting ahead on media narrative. So investors look set for turbulent times ahead as the values for the assets are not clear cut to calculate, the negative fallout from the altnets going to the wall will hit BT with a broadsiding and... there's not going to be an imminent pickup in sales volumes due to housing market and wider macroeconomic stagnation.
