Hi RELLIM - I recall that the fracking controversy here was more to do with the site(s) being in urban areas unlike, say, in the US where most were well away from populated areas.

Several fracking sites precipitated mini earthquakes / ground heave, I seem to remember, with one or two minor ones over here giving rise to the protest groups succeeding in stopping such activities. However, when needs must, you never know... sasa.

If any outfit was contemplating an offer for Serica, this Russian incursion into Ukraine must surely put a premium on the appeal of North Sea oil & gas interests, quite apart from Germany's decision to stop the Nord2 gas pipeline supplying them.

Also, the UK must surely look more favourably now on further development of our domestic fossil fuel resources to improve our energy self - sufficiency? - sasa.

Hi flexmw - I haven't followed Kistos that closely since launch, although it's done very well so far.

Asked recently which I thought was the more appealing, I thought I'd get NewK's view on the pair beforehand as he's in Kist, too. Obviously 'chalk & cheese' in terms of ops / balance sheet / management styles, etc., and he'll be more 'clued up' on Kist than me.

Personally, I'd opt for Serica, as I'm far more familiar with it after a decade or so invested and the current stats are very compelling in today's climate as we all know. I also tend to favour the 'value' argument in stock selection, (being 'old school', etc.,) but that maybe too biased a view, of course,
hence my general enquiry - sasa.

Hi Mommur - Given Serica's cautious approach to things (not appreciated by some, I know) I'd guess that ACW / MF must calculate their CoS with North Eigg would be rather better than 50/50 to be going it alone with this - certainly the seismics look appealing to my untrained eye...

Hi Maverick - interesting observation there, re: 'moving the Eigg drill back into late Q2 which will coincide with the bumper H1 results expected for this year, should the outcome disappoint' - I picked up on that, too...
I gather the data room has been closed now, so going it alone is clearly a gamble but MF / ACW clearly think it's worth the risk (noting the CoS hasn't been declared) but their abundance of cash obviously permits them to fund the opportunity.

If it turns out successfully, I'd expect Serica to soon make a move onto the main mkt - if it doesn't, that'll probably explain why they've deferred any alternative event until the outcome is known; one thing at a time - sensible, imv - sasa.

now out of the way, Serica's abundance of cash rolling in comes into its own with interest rates rising / debt servicing elsewhere increasing. Despite his dig at MF, I bet AA envies Serica's robust position right now, given the flexibility afforded; with gas & oil prices so high, they'll come off again at some point and then more attractive deals will likely commend themselves. Timing, etc.,

Meanwhile, the cash keeps rolling in and although the mkt dislikes such riches lying idle, along with some LTHs on here, it just makes Serica a safer haven than it already is.

When the 2021 figs. are released / with the 1st Qtr for 2022 in the bag, we should certainly get a good divd boost or a special divd declaration announced to mollify the disgruntled - sasa.

Hi gwm - I've felt better in previous times, tbh, but hope you're alright while we all wait to see if this latest development amounts to much.

Haven't the time now to go into some inferences that one might draw from it, other than to say that the sp has been so low for so long that there was much opportunity created by that and the shareholders should be the prime beneficiaries of it as they own the business after all.

A double digit sp should be for starters, given the near insatiable industrial demand for premium nickel sulphide ore that we have whereas many others don't - sasa.

Hi redeye - yes, you're right about my 43 suffix as my date of birth - I joined my first firm in 1959 (Simon & Coates) so I remember the 'Poseidon Adventure' very well; was in my firm's 'box' on the floor when the sp reached the dizzying height of £124 'bid not offered' - truly amazing!

I spent most of my time in the office subsequently and became a member of the Stock Exchange in 1977, fwiw...

I retired in 2002 (ergo, 43 years in the mkts, too, coincidentally) so it looks like we're the same vintage and it's great, therefore, to learn that some of the 'old stagers' are still around after all this time.

Things have changed so radically since those days, though, not least, it seems, the abandonment of our credo 'Dictum meum Pactum' which we all rigorously lived by back then but 'C'est la Vie', I guess.

Anyway, I've always run my own stuff and try to keep up with events as best I can to 'keep my eye in' / the old 'grey matter' stimulated, etc., in my dotage...

Hi redeye - generally agree with your mkt maxim about 'Buy on a find' etc., although I think one can say that in your third para, (nothing new that wasn't expected) isn't quite right, in that the reported discovery was appox. 50% greater than the hope for successful outcome.

Up some 25% over the past month; closed end funds don't normally show such fleet of foot. Must be hopes of a bumper final divd coming up, bearing in mind the earlier discount has now pushed on to a 6% odd premium - sasa.
