Wouldn’t surprise me if GGP has had exploratory talks about acquiring Newmonts slice of Havieron and Telfer.

We have all assumed Telfer without Havieron was worthless with decommissioning costs etc.

Newmont are trying to counter that argument in the last interview.

Newmont could be setting out its stall on the possible bargaining and price for those assets.

I await the results from the Ernest Giles drilling as we are told it is an exceptional target.

We have found Havieron, but since then nothing of note. Pathfinder elements maybe, but until they come up with some great drilling results, I can’t agree with th@T first sentence. Sorry.

I don’t think Callum’s own shares would have been shorted to be honest.

I think he is very loyal to GGP and its shareholders.

We are only speculating here, but if he found out that the Starvest holding of GGP’s shares were being shorted, then he has been very clever on coming to this course of action to divest the shares to all shareholders.

On the other hand (and I am arguing against myself as usual), the Starvest BOD may well have decided that the Starvest sp didn’t truly reflect the share holdings they had and decided to wind up the company. Callum not wanting to hurt GGP by putting 80 million shares on the market, came up with the plan to divest the shares to all shareholders. Unwittingly causing a possible short squeeze.

Further on in the piece I have just posted….

In our example, if Starvest had wanted to sell the stock and distribute the cash, the broker may well have been able to cover it. ( Even though it amounts to 80+ million shares).

Because Starvest are not selling but distributing the shares, this could on theory cause a problem for the broker. Ie a possible short squeeze.

“When a trader wishes to take a short position, they borrow the shares from a broker without knowing where the shares come from or to whom they belong. The borrowed shares may be coming out of another trader's margin account, out of the shares held in the broker's inventory, or even from another brokerage firm. It is important to note that when the transaction has been placed, the broker is the party doing the lending, not the individual investor. So, any benefit received (along with any risk) belongs to the broker.”

It’s good to know I’m not alone in thinking about the possibility. My only argument against it is, would a company like Starvest not know if their shares were being used? Private investors yes, but a large investment company?

On the other hand. As I tried to say earlier, with Callum at the helm of Starvest, shorters may well have thought the idea of loaning the shares on a long basis, would be safe, as I believe he wouldn’t do anything to cause harm to GGP. Hence distributing the shares to Starvest shareholders, rather than sell them and distribute the money.

Let’s hope this rise continues in any case. A lot of shareholders have been in negative territory for so long. Best wishes to all.

Not sure if your last post was aimed at my post, but just in case, if Starvests GGP shares had been lent out without their knowledge, then those shorted shares need to be got back before Starvest start distributing them to their shareholders. A possible short squeeze perhaps?

Starvest decide to distribute all their shares in companies they hold and suddenly the shorts begin to close.

Is there a correlation?

Is it possible Starvest shares in GGP were being shorted without their knowledge?

With Callum being a stalwart supporter of GGP, maybe the shorters felt they could use the shares for as long as they liked, because there was little chance of Starvest selling them?

Well something has changed over the last week or so. My bets on good Rio jv drill results leaking out.

How many people like myself, believe that shorts have been used to bring down or suppress the sp during a particular part of the trading day, only to be bought back again later that day? It therefore makes it difficult to be able to say how many shorts are active.

A distribution in specie refers to the distribution of an asset in its current form, rather than first liquidating it and distributing the proceeds. It is a practice often used in the MVL process.
