Fran, I think the point is we are so far up the road of useless politicians from all sides we are up the creek. I am in my sixties, I have seen politicians that I have not agreed with, but to be fair they were reasonably competent either in government or in opposition. The level of incompetence and self seeking now appears to be universal at a level hitherto unseen. I didn't agree with Thatcher and her decisions, but I never saw that as incompetence, rather it was where she arrived at by reasoning and to be fair there were things that needed change. Blair and Brown I disagreed with their policies on academies, gold and immigration, but they were arrived at through reasoning and planning, albeit mistaken in my view. this lot in charge just bungle and lie, whilst the opposition cant string sentences together that form a coherent alternative approach for consideration.
John Major, Ken Clarke, Alan Johnson, Evette Cooper and other middle of the road ones have sometimes made sense to me, albeit not always.
I vote for my MP, John Cruddas, not for party reasons, but because he has responded to me and done some things related to those issues, I like that.

My alternative would to have them listen to and take the advice from the top scientific advisers and not swaddle advice in pseudo reasoning. Testing advice, PPE and preparation advice goes back long ways from the experts (January), they should have listened to that instead of listening to Cumming herd immunity is a good thing to let happen and it would be a good thing if old people died.

The statement that the pol8cy was for herd immunity, followed by a statement it was not policy.
The lies and incompetence can be expected, what is surprising is to make a lie so soon after a contrary decision or public statement and expect me to not realise it. Don’t know about you but either me head is on upside down or this is insulting beyond words.

In the meantime they are selling substandard PPE and equipment ( Spain half a billion) to in countries infected with the Chinese virus- oh and does anyone think a virus that could be described as a designer virus comes from a place near the research centres. The food markets are indeed bad, but they have been chewing the heads of bats for 4 thousand years, that virus would have been in the population before now if it was natural. It is very different in its manifestation of symptoms and epidemiology from others. It also does a job on the elderly in a country with a huge demographic problem due to years of a one child policy.

Indeed, truly terrible numbers in Spain. They say it will be worse in the USA. The sooner antibody testing comes on line the better, it was said by a bio engineering that they would be producing them this week. Also another one said they could produce engineered antibodies that can be used in treatment and will manufacture them this month. Let’s hope that these people can get to their self proclaimed targets. These are times I never though I would go through. There has been a total unpreparedness given what we knew in January across all countries. In the UK we have one of the lowest number of ICU beds of the European countries, Italy maintains twice as many. The USA has an appalling healthcare system for its people. The UK in particular ignored warnings imho, ordering the ventilators last week, jokes. Across the west thousands of cases of individual and family tragedy. There will be serious food shortages soon unless someone does something to arrange for food pockets, harvesters etc across Europe and gets around closed borders and reassured the pickers etc with ppe etc.
Lots more to come that’s bad for all companies without intervention, it makes the loan facility look good.
Overall if the antibody things work and are produced (CEO promises) everything becomes far more positive. At the moment though, best investment in the Uk is an allotment.

Yep nmh, my money is on super duper inflation. Loads of pounds , euros and dollars, but nothing produced or served means more pounds, dollars or euros per mars bar, widget or whatever.

Dreaming, Personally I would prefer Jeremy Hunt to be in charge at this time, he has medical training and thinks things through. Instead all the top guys Boris, Han****, gove etc are not up to much in my opinion. Sure they were better than the labour front bench for the most part, but so was my dog.

Franny, it could be there’s a few ifs, but that does look brighter. I think the correlation to theBCG inoculation might be coming into play here, but not so good for places where they didn’t do it. Let’s keep fingers crossed !

Fran, I think the research on the bcg inoculation certainly helps things, now we are isolating for the most part, that is a big improvement. Plus field hospitals being set up together with the private health care resource all help to mitigate, my personal view is we should have done it earlier, we still had Boris going round shaking hands on the 3rd march ( leading from the front and taking scientific advice there?). It’s always been about buying time to get things in place, it’s looking better, but could have been sooner imho.
Also refusing to go into the EU procurement scheme which was offered and then when questioned on why not we now have answers from no one told us, we are past the entry date ( untrue door still open on that), to an adviser ****ed up the email and probably the real one which is that we will go our own way as part of Brexit to why not. Just saying wash your hands was not enough 10 days ago. So for me we are getting there, but it could be better.

If the antibody tests come on stream this week, the antibody treatment that can be produced by mid April as promised, the chloroquine and other treatments prove efficacious in clinical trials, the BCG TB innoculations get taken up more widely and lock downs continue for a bit we could be coming out of this Covid disaster by early May. There will be a big upturn n most everything except UK food retail because no one will need to buy food and the toilet roll manufacturers will suffer a severe loss of demand. Any low price share purchased now could become worth much more quite suddenly.

Kev, we are lucky to have a garden and a bit of green etc. My daughter is locked down in a studio flat in Spain, it’s harsh for her; but even worse for families with children or the couples she can hear arguing at an increasing rate. So beside the Covid19 itself there is a lot of psychological harm happening, particularly those who may have a condition.
With our chaps at La Parilla it might well be a very good thing that they can work, especially if they live in apartments as so many do. Although it’s crass, it is a fact that our mine provides, for some, solace in these troubled times.
In the meantime those of us with our little bit of fresh air ( it is notably fresher at this time) are very fortunate. To do garden things is more of a joy then ever.
Hopefully, treatments and other things enable some return to normality to allow people to get out etc.
