Why do you say that? If a small company is to grow into a global leader, you need a recruitment policy bigger than a classified ad in the Oxford gazette. How many of. Scancell's research staff came through Nottingham Uni? A fair few I'd say.

I think the majority of grabbing at diminishing straws is occurring in the glee club camp.

Whatever the impact turns out to be, LD's retirement from Nottingham University is very significant. On the plus side she has theoretically more time to devote to her Scancell duties but the down side is she no longer has the kudos of the chair in immunology and access to the university resources - the major one being talented people.

Access to significant numbers of extremely talented people is an invaluable asset - as demonstrated by Microsoft in the 90s.

It looks like the market has taken the news in a negative way. It is essential that Scancell comment and clarify the impact.

You make a valid point. Also worrying for NHS staff on the front line who will be expected to cope with everything thrown at them.

I should hope they are - we wouldn't want to see the SP "just melt away" :)

Do you think Scancell should issue an RNS stating that 200 of the 203 likes are SCLP shareholders and not to get carried away?

I think you make a great point. Many of us have expressed frustration at lack of news on all fronts. There has to be a substantial update before or at the AGM (which isn't that far off)

Thanks, those were pretty much my thoughts as well. I think there are companies that are just unfashionable. I think there is a need for a non technical, commercial arm to sell the concept and make them "fashionable".
I did not get the significance of the RNS from the title. I thought it was a re-hashed "first patient dosed" announcing the second patient dosed - not a lot of progress. You have to dig into the detail to realise it is first patient dosed in the SECOND cohort, the implications of which were quite significant as per the discussion that ensued yesterday.

Incidentally, I've had two jabs and a booster and had Covid recently (so almost certainly Omicron)
I'm not really keen to have another booster that offers minimal additional protection. Anyone else feel the same?

Did anyone see the piece on BBC news this morning about a booster vaccine to be rolled out in the Autumn. There are two, one from Moderna and one from Pfizer/BioNtech. The Pfizer one is described as "bivalent" which means it targets two antigens - one for the original strain and one that is Omicron specific. These went into trial a few weeks ago but already have FDA approval for emergency use.

Still a long way short of a "universal" vaccine I'd say but if an inferior product is the only one available (and approved) it will be the one bought.

Any thoughts?

My only motivation was to establish the facts. Following that, whether you, I or anyone wants to get carried away or cease getting carried away is entirely their own choice.

If you listen to the RG interview there are plenty of things still applicable, foe example WHY BioNTech chose to partner with Scancell. These reasons still apply but also would apply to partnering with any other big pharma.

I have to agree with your analysis. The only known tie up between Scancell and BioNtech has been the grand challenge and the Moditope/TCR research. We have no recent evidence to suggest these are still on-going but no concrete evidence that they have been officially terminated.

There has been no suggestion that there is a tie up on Covidity. I think the approaches are so different it would be difficult to find synergy but I am not an immunologist so couldn't say for sure.

RG in the 2018 proactive interview about the BioNTech collaboration that Lindy and Ugur Sahin got along very well. This was before Sahin became internationally famous but I'm sure they chat now again whether or not there is any formal "collaboration" taking place. So if things on the Modi/TCR changed then I'm sure BioNtech would know about it.

Well it was well reported in 2018 and so I guess at the time "well known"
But why have there been no updates since then? The area of interest was Moditope so it may be that progress is dependent on trial data, who knows?

But why do TD describe BioNtech as a "competitor" and "PRIOR collaborator" (capitals added). Prior suggests that the collobaration ended at some point. If it has, then it wasn't reported. This then puts into question other collaborations - are these active, dormant or terminated. It would be good to know these things.

So ratty, if you could address any of the questions sensibly it would be appreciated.
