Morning all, hope all I keeping safe and well.
I’m afraid this isn’t a black and white issue. If we look at the two extremes.
1. Positive actions - lockdown, isolation, testing, develop vaccine, bolster health service capacity (hospitals, personnel, equipment), PPE, education.
2) no action, let the virus run its course, get herd immunity, protect the economy.
The approach of most countries has been to adopt elements of both. Each option will have variances. For example, lockdown: how well is it observed or enforced - loosely or tightly?
The consequences of the two extremes will be different but both will have bad ones. The complete lockdown will impact the economy. This in itself may increase depression, suicide. The stay at home policy may affect people’s wellbeing. The indirect deaths from this will most likely be small compared to letting the virus run its course.
We just don’t know what action or combination of actions will may the best outcome. Maybe time will tell or maybe we will never know as we can’t answer the “what if?”
