1. This looks like a validation step. Create blueprint of device to Cytiva.

2. Validation is being done with live virus and neither Cytiva or Son a have suitable labs

3. Getting third party to validate strengthens proposition, reduces liability and doesn't slow anything down

Research and development takes time.

I suspect more projects arrive late than on time.

I don't think this project is delayed. Sir A suggested mid summer has his important milestone. Given the experience people have had with Abs why do we not have a LFD based on that tech.

No problem with Avacta playing it close to their chest - this will be the first commercial affimer LFD . The opportunity to get this spectacularly right is there - I'm happy with then managing that without updating the market with no real news.

Big issue is tests can take days to come back. So unknown person turns up in clinic cause know they have engaged in high risk behaviour, test collected, sent home, spends weekend shagging, never goes back. Symptoms of disease 1 subside but has more than one - HIV and Hepatitis particular problems but a number of conditions are "silent".

A rapid multplex test would enable the person to do a scrap and wait. I think it would more likely be a handheld biosensor then a LFD - put something like a glucose strip into a sensor. I believe this will happen with affimers in next five years - already working on this for sepsis

Do validation tests need to be done by an organisation independent of the manufacturer. I think for CE market they do

So its important the maximum numbers of binding sites are presented to the antigen. Random distribution (such as spraying on to a surface and taking what you get) would limit this. By being able to orientate all the binding sites in the optimum place then the limit of detection and ability to distinguish between different
concentrations (is that sensitivity?) Is improved.

Still not proven first covid but maybe for Zika. Given this element of structure of affirmers is consistent then looking good - zika project not commercially a success but probably shortened development times.

IF we get a successful covid test then actually what we have is a whole new class of diagnostics which will threaten the existing Ab based tests. Companies such as Abbott etc must have done a Porters 5 forces (been dying to use that just to confuse Nelly the jolliphant) and be thinking how to respond. Choices limited cause of patent on molecule class.

Strength of IP is an important consideration. Given how long company has been up and running do we have any dates.

I started with what is the value of the antibody market. Lots of segments. Both recognition molecules.

I came to Avacta because of the diagnostics - modern diagnostics is in its infancy. Ability to identify maps of different pathologies and bespoke medicine. After looking at emerging tech it seemed to me affimers were applicable in some form in every situation I looked at. For example measuring and quantifying sRAGE as a marker of COPD with a home device like a diabetic meter.

When I saw the therapeutics and benchmarked them against similar stage biotech and potential they looked cheap even when take into account number that make it - the multiple projects and diagnostics reduce the risk. So if 1:20 chance they make it in £1B market they were still cheap. Anyway went off yack there - I'm using Ab market as TAM

I've no idea - £2B suggests earnings of about £120m per year. I've no info about market other than CEO saying it was £350M - any idea on growth rate

To be fair Cytiva also have deal with Avacta's nearest potential rival.

My kids would burn through that ....
