Smacks part of it might be due to lack of focus. When you have so many opportunities you need the discipline to heat on with one but also say no to the others.

Their strategy of partnering in diagnostics got way laid when therapeutics raised its head. Diagnostics is highly competitive (lots of different tech) and has high inertia to sticking with what you know. Looks like they had already taken decision to switch focus and resources to therapeutics. Good decision but OP makes a fair point.

Covid is not like flu. I know someone who had it. It felt like breathing shards of glass.

People are now getting a handle on the longer term medical consequences. Easy to say covid is over but it really isn't. We may have taken steps to reduce numbers infected and today's news about dex is great (although its already probably standard of care). However, there is still an infectious agent capable of simple transmission present and asymptotic is a great deal of people. It hospitalises a huge number cimpared to our capacity to cope and will be competing for resources wity flu in a fairly short period of time.Which bit of that implies this is over - reversing the steps such as travel etc might just reverse the impact those steps had.

Maybe Awacta will make it, maybe they won't. That is a different question.
