Only reason I'm posting this is because it feeds into mrc's point that Labour are running out of ideas and the electorate are getting bored. How are they going to nail down actual oil and gas giants? They only have a tiny interest in the North Sea. The NS O&G isn't populated by giants. The Labour party is reinforcing the fact that it is out of touch. COP26 was full of BJ bluster and technically we can wriggle out as he "made it all up". My daughter attended COP26 as a journalist but only because it was based in Britain. Her company passed on COP27 deeming it not interesting enough. My daughter and her friends if pushed would agree with climate concerns as would her friends; they'd probably say the same about female emancipation and world peace too. She is always flying overseas and never says no to a lift. Just wait until Labour discover that climate ideology doesn't interest the masses and is not a vote winner. A lot of us have ICE cars and use gas for cooking and heating.

I was listening to James O'Brien on LBC. His chosen topic was the "global climate crisis" and the fact that the present government is embracing fossil fuels with today's announcements. I tried to get on because once again the 9X quote was mentioned by a caller. That wasn't the best bit though. He couldn't get any interest and it was a mixture of greens and ignorant people like Stanley. Totally ignored by anyone with knowledgeable insight. There was no interest. He did his best and finally gave up and said for the next hour what would the listeners like to listen to? Cosmetic surgery or Universities and tuition fees.

You probably do have a point with the 13 years Juan but the industry is also entering the "transition phase" whereby renewables NEED the O&G industry as does the country. It could be pretty exciting times for EnQuest.

I think the O&G Industry will pay more attention than normal to the results of the local elections, as will others in case "they're next". I must say that Labour's ideas seem from an earlier era. They're moving more to the left and that hasn't been working lately. They don't seem to have anything really progressive or exciting to say.

My post was rhetorical - others get it but then they're normal.

I've already got a headache. Why are they promoting LNG and our facilities? It is more expensive than our own gas and dirtier. Qatar and Biden will help us. I suspect Biden would abandon us in a heartbeat if we upset his beloved Ireland whilst Qatar like being in a dictatorial position (small nation syndrome). Looks like we'll be a hub to ship gas on to the rest of Europe. I think I'll wait whilst the experts disassemble the rhetoric.
Oil doesn't seem to get much of a mention at a first glance. Any mention of "obscene profits" or O & G "giants". Was transition mentioned much?

I am not disappointed, yet. There is a lot of hot air here for instance "The Great British Insulation Scheme, a rebranded ECO+, will upgrade 300,000 of the country’s least energy efficient homes." These will be local authority and housing associations mainly. I first got involved with this kind of stuff back in 2008 and met Grant Shapps in 2010/11.
It is politically driven in parts and this kind of stuff is costly and takes forever. No doubt the Fife scheme for hydrogen has enabled them to get the costs down below £100k per home for the next scheme. Then there are those who live in flats. Herding cats is easier and if you want to enjoy unremitting misery you can always try property management.
The intentions are good for the country but we will still live in the present. ASH pumps and EV's have their fans and advantages but they don't work for everybody and are still incredibly expensive (with heat pumps it is upgrading and redecorating the properties with larger rads).
I doubt the government has abandoned the O&G industry but politically the time is not yet right to tinker with the EPL imo. They (and Labour) know how important the industry is and most homes will have gas for cooking and space heating for decades to come. As for oil, it will be like changing the ingredients of existing cakes and expecting them to taste the same. So far no real reaction to the announcement. It is more a case what has been said in private to the industry and for us what EnQuest say next Wednesday.

As always conflicting views. Podcast by Martin Lewis using Cornwall Insight forecasting says energy prices anticipated to be 20% lower by July and flat for October & Jan 24 with even April no more than 20% higher. Advising consumers not to lock into fixed contracts yet. There is only one fixed out there, Ovo, and that is only for existing clients.
I think Grant Shapps is more into survival of the fittest and cannier than he’s given credit for. Certainly a better scenario for us than a year ago. Renewables have dipped into the subsidy trough for long enough imo.

Does that mean that gas is no longer a scapegoat and we can look forward to electricity bills being cheaper? I doubt the electricity companies will be too happy that they've had their stabilisers removed. Still, not a bad starting off point at 9X cheaper.

TBH I've got no idea of the impact but I do like that they are beginning to realise that not ALL energy is the same.

That is scary. Obviously a top of the range so suffers heavier depreciation but lower down the scale the same problems with battery life etc. exist. I do like the looks of EV's and acceleration but at the moment they look to me like air source heat pumps on wheels. Great in theory but sooo expensive when you look at the whole picture. And that's before you worry about range and charging problems. Great in theory but in real life - not for me.

That is how the message is spread KO. People buy things to show off to the neighbours or try anything new. It works on me with chocolate - if they put NEW on it, I buy it. Cadbury's have known this for years. That is some depreciation. It'll be interesting to know what it does finally go at. What is the mileage?
I've just sold my diesel to a garage in Swansea via Motorway. I'm getting a petrol replacement. I'll be lucky to do 5,000 miles a year so electric was never going to work.
Bought small today on EnQuest. During the Liaison committee meeting yesterday Sunak was asked who will champion & lace together strategies for driving forward the Green energy vision. He replied that Grant Shapps was doing a superb job on energy security and net zero and will be talking about this "more soon".

Don't be silly Jennifer. That is far too sensible. Pick the soft target first abetted by the likes of juststopoil, the Green Party and opposition parties for whom cost doesn't come into it. After all, renewables are 9 X cheaper than gas [well so they say buut not yet reflected in my electric bills] and that's before unicorn tears and angel breath is energised.
