These are just daily fluctuations. I think the big shift will come following the next update from IAG, which will probably be negative and may augur a further cash raising. I can see a rerate, in the 150-170 range, coming in the next couple of months, once it dawns on the market that there will be no substantial return to air travel until next year.

Well, we need a positive update soon or the sp will be back in the teens.

Having held this share for almost 3 years, I have defended its performance many times, mostly due to the generous dividend policy. I am starting to have my doubts however. I have reinvested all the dividends and I’m barely up on my original investment. If this is what the good times look like, then it hardly seems worthwhile holding here. On the next rally, I will seriously consider following the herd and ditching the lot.

Looks like the market sees a counterbid as a possibility. I thought the board would have sounded out the big IIs before recommending acceptance of the bid, but apparently not. If IIs dig their heels in, who knows?

Rant away. I bought in just after the results and it has been on a downward spiral ever since. Wish I hadn’t bothered. Doubtless it will recover, post-June, but I would rather have bought at today’s price.

Question is, what would be a good offer now? I think it would have to be 750p, to even stand a chance of being accepted by the big IIs, who are the ones with the final say here.

The share has been a bit of a plodder. Every time it seemed to find its legs, it fell back again. The yield has been acceptable, but less than stellar. It would probably have taken a couple of years or more for the sp to reach the offer price. Shame there wasn’t any bid competition, but I think it’s a reasonable offer. I’m happy to take my 30% profit and move onto something else, which is apparently what most IIs thought too.

Hmm, while the sp is apparently going nowhere.

For years I have been wondering why, if is possible to power an aircraft carrier for 20 years with a small nuclear reactor, the same cannot be done for a town or city. Clearly renewables alone cannot supply all of our future power needs and large nuclear power stations are a nightmare to get built. I think this SMR project will take off, not just here, but around the world.

This week’s week-on-week rise was 3.76%. The same rise next week would take us over 50p. I think we shall see a fairly rapid rise to 60p, where it will probably stick until we get back to 5%+ dividends.

Not quite 50p this week, but next week should see it.

If we are to see any breaking of this cycle, which has been going on for about a year now (sp reaches >2.5 and then slides back to 2.1) then we need more than good news. Clearly, the market needs to see a series of solid results and no further dilution, over an extended period, before we see any significant and sustained upward movement in the sp.

Prawncurry. Uncrossing trade is just a market accounting device, not a real trade. In other words, there was no £11M sell.

I think you have a point , NicetoMichu. The unpredictability of PL and the unpredictability of the Argentinian economy are the biggest impediments to sp progress. PL is currently ‘on probation’ with many investors. Let’s hope he continues to behave responsibly, so that we can all capitalise on recent successes.

Given the rise so far this morning, the (usually sceptical) market would seem to be reassured by PL’s words.

Apparently, Elliot typically builds stakes through derivatives, allowing it to stay under the radar, which would explain why there has no declaration of its GSK holding.

Yes, perhaps one week is a little ambitious. Make it 2 weeks. I think the rush for value shares will increase exponentially in the next few weeks. What we saw this week is just the warm-up (imho).

Investment strategy is mostly down to luck. One day in July 2020, I decided to take look at who was the biggest faller on the FTSE 250, which happened to be John Laing Group. Having done some research and found that it was a decent company, with growth potential and paying a good dividend, I bought in. Ten months later, I am 18% up. Not bad for a pot luck investment.
